A Question for Others Who Have Used Lexapro

Just had a quick question on Lexapro. When I first started it 2 weeks ago, it made me feel GREAT. For the first week I had tons of energy and motivation. I woke up in the morning ready to go. I hadn't felt that good in 10 years. Well now that I am at the end of my 2nd week, that feeling has subsided. I have gone back to being tired and unmotivated. Granted, it has diminished my emotional reaction to things. But I had really hoped the energy and motivation would continue. For others who have taken it...did it also give you energy, and did that level of energy continue for you? Or did it subside? I realize it's only been 2 weeks on it...and I'm hoping that maybe after a few more weeks, maybe the energy level will kick back in. Was just curious what others experiences were in terms of energy level. Thanks in advance for any replies.

I was put on that after my nephew was murdered. After a few weeks, I realized I didn't care about anything and got off of it.
Have you had your thyroid checked?
If you you would like to know about supplements that help I would be glad to help you.

Hi there! I tried Lexapro about 6 years ago for a brief time and I felt like it did not do anything for me. It also made me gain a few pounds so I got off it. I think I took it for about 1 month. The result was not great for me so it wasn't worth taking. Try working out and taking a fast paced walk to get a burst of energy. Hope this helps.

I used Lexapro for about a year. It probably saved my life. I did feel really good at first then I kind of leveled out. Perhaps you should call your doctor and describe to him/her what you told us here. I just remember being extremely thirsty for the first day or say. Good luck!

The first "happy pill" I took (I think it was Paxil) did the same thing for a while, but after a while it leveled off. I've been on Lexapro for several years now, and don't really have any more energy when I take it vs when I forget. It levels out my thought process and emotions and that's why I need it anyway.

I think that burst of energy at the 1st is very typical. Wish it would last!!!!

Hi K.,

I have not taken Lexapro, but my mother, who has battled depression for 25 years & been on many antidepressants, had an aweful experience with Lexapro. I have read up on most of the common anitdepressants & I would suggest exploring other options. I had to read up on them because my mother's depression increased SEVERLY while on Lexapro. I do realize that everyone has different reactions, but I found MANY similar stories out there like my mom's. And my mother did feel good in the beginning with Lexapro & then began to feel extremely down after the first month. Again, I do not mean to frighten you, & do realize everyone has different reactions to medication. I just wanted to share my experience because it was very frightening. Also, just like someone else mentioned- DO NOT cold turkey with this. We had the same experience! Best of luck to you & God bless.

An antidepressant is not a pep pill. It shouldn't affect your energy level at all. The first week was all in your head. No offense meant my this statement. Are you at the highest dosage? When starting an antidepressant doctors start their patients on a low dosage and it needs to be increased or the Lexapro isn't working for you. Try something else because there are many many antidepressants out there.

I was on it for about 6 months. DO NOT STOP TAKING IT COLD TURKEY! If you do, you will feel like you are going through drug withdrawls, (I've never taken drugs but this is how I imagine it feels like when someone is going off of it). Look at the Lexapro website, it will tell you about all the side effects, ups/downs and more. It did give me energy at first but I will never take it again.

take it at night before bed, it causes drowsiness in some people. you may feel less tired if you don't take it in the am.
