A Private Wax :)

I know this question doesn't pertain to child care, but I need the advice of other women. I will be leaving for a week long beach vacation on Saturday and am considering my first bikini, if not French, wax. It would be happening Friday, the day before I leave, since I will be at my salon to get my hair done. They are fully licensed. I'm prepared for the pain of the actual waxing, but I am worried about the pain after the event. Has anyone gotten one or the other, or a full Brazilian? And what are your recommendations on whether or not to get this done so close to wearing a bathing suit? Thanks in advance for your help :)

What can I do next?

I had a bikini wax done for the first tiem when I was pregnant. It was summer and I could no longer see beyond the belly. The salon I went to did a great job and the pain afterwods wasn't to bad. They also used a creme/lotion and I didn't get any bumps or anything....I have been doing this now everytime I know I'm going to need to get into a swimsuit!

I'm a fan of the Brazilian, but I suggest some Ibuprophen 1st. It's not fun while it's being done, but worth it afterwards. I suggest doing it a couple days before you leave.

Here's a question for everyone. Where is a good place to get waxed in the Malvern area? I've only ever had mine done in Philly when I lived there.

Hello J.! I do It all the time before I go to the beach. IT HURTS while they do it. But it is all worth it!!!! Do it and never look back. Yes it will hurt for some time after, but that pain you will be able to deal with. Mine hurts for aabout one hour after it. But look on the bright side: it will not grow put for at least 1 week, it will not itch either. It is the best thing that was ever invented. Also, it would look very cute. I always get the Brazilian and LOVE it. Good luck and have fun!

Have you ever been waxed anywhere before? As a former professional I would definatly NOT recommend doing this the day before your vacation. You could have a very bad reaction to the wax or worse bruising and bumps at the site of the waxing. If you are going to do it anyway, make an appointment for today to get a few days "under you belt" before the vacation. If things go wrong it will give you a chance to figure out a cover up and if things are ok it is going to last 6- 8 weeks any way. One final bit of advise from some one who is not working on commission, don't even bother with this procedure unless you have AT LEAST 6 - 10 weeks of hair growth. It will not be effective and you will end up shaving anyway to get a clean look.

Have a great vacation!

J.,
I have done bikini waxing before going to the beach, as well as, brazilian waxing. It is quick and just lightly painful at the moment. The bothersome sensation should not last, but just seconds after done. I would do just bikini waxing, unless you are going to a naked beach or are enough brave to do the brazilian one. The brazilian one, I did once and will not try ever again. It was not for my and maybe the aesthetician did not have the best skills. One day before going to the beach is usually the procedure. The redness should go away immediately and not irritation should appear unless you skin is prone to do so.

enjoy your trip,

I got a wax three days before I went to Cancun, legs bikini and all and I broke out and had these little red bumps on just my legs for the next four days. I think with waxing some people have a good reaction to it and others don't. I obviously didn't. It may have been the type of wax they used. The only way your really going to know for sure is to get it done but my suggestion is have them do a small test area first on your leg and if no red bumps appear, mine did immediately then you should be fine.

Have had many Brazilian waxes, but the first one was so painful that it took me a few days to recover-yet highly recommended on many many levels!! First, schedule this appointment a few days prior to your trip, take ibuprofren beforehand and ice afterwards(throw in some alcohol too) Good luck.....W.
ps Ask for referrals-make sure the technician is fully licensed and specializes in brazilian waxes.

You will love it .(No shaving for about 2 to 3 weeks) If it does get sore take tea bags COOLED and put on the bikini area. This will take it away and sooth. Hope I helped. I've just gotten the regular bikini wax, but they waxed over my c-section scar (I don't know why, there was no hair there!) and it hurt for DAYS! So if you had a c-section be careful! Also, are you sure your husband would like it? Mine wouldn't, he doesn't want to be with "a little girl". I know it is in fashion now, and most guys love it. I just would hate for you to go thru all that pain for nothing!

Love the brazilian.... but my advice is to do a regular first to get an idea of what it feels like b/c you are going to be nervous and maybe even uncomfortable at first. The regular doesnt hurt too much in my opinion, but the brazilian is quite painful - quick, but painful - definately go for the regular bikini wax first! You can even get a little more off each time you go. Good Luck!!!

I think the worst pain is RIGHT after they rip the wax/hair off (like while they're ripping it off & then right after). Once it's all done, you MAY be red, a little swollen and/or sore for a few days though. Taking a little bit of Ibuprofin can help & I think using Arnica Montana cream (from the health food store) might help. Witch hazel would probably help too.
The nice thing about a wax is that you probably won't need to shave ALL week long!
Have fun!

I got a brazilian before it does hurt but is so worth it. I did it right before I got married in the bahamas. It lasts quite some time as well. the only thing is after you may have some wax left on you which can be a pain to get off. just to warn you that it can be embarassing the postions they put you in but other then that I say go for it. you might have a little bruising I did so if you can get it done a few days before you leave that would be better. have a great vacation

Definitely don't do it the day before you leave. You will be red and sore, especially for your first time. I would skip it for this time and plan much further ahead for your next vacation. If you body is used to it, a day or two is fine. But since you are not used to it, WAIT.

ok, I am in the industry, and do the actual waxing.....first off, make sure that the person doing it has experience. I'm sure that the first person I ever waxed has never had it done again! Maybe for the first time you don't want to have a brazilian, just go for a "regular" or a "french". When is the last time you shaved? If it has been recently, like in the last 2 weeks, you will have growth soon after the wax. What grows in is NOT the hair that has been waxed, but the hair that is not yet through when you wax. All hair grows at different times, so there is some that is not broked through the skin at the time of the wax.
If the person doing the wax knows what they are doing you should be able to go the day before your vacation.
I could go on and on, if you would like to contact me personally, please do so and I will be happy to talk to you.
good luck,
M.

Go for the Brazilian! It will hurt like a son of a biscuit, BUT the next day, you will LOVE it! Gotta give it 24 hours, though.

I'm a fan of regular bikini waxing, but wary of Brazilian - more sensitive skin and that can ITCH as it grows back. I agree with the other moms that don't recommend getting it the night before you want to be in a bathing suit (I've been getting it done now for almost 10 years and I still time it so that I have 2 days to let the "chicken skin" and redness calm down). If you are worried about pain, you can take some ibuprofin before you go, and don't get it done right before your period. I also think it hurts more if you get it done in colder weather (some waxers agree - something about your blood vessels constricting). But there's only discomfort during - not after. You shouldn't be sore at all afterwards. Ask for some cream to keep the area calm, and if they don't have anything, rub some aloe or a fragrance-free lotion on at home. Good luck!

Get it done!!! You and your husband will love it. Talk to the waxer and you can decide what fits you best. Sometimes just the bikini wax will do, but if you are living on the edge and and have a night with no kids go for the moderate brazillian :) You will love not having to shave! Enjoy vacation.

if right before cycle don't do it, can be more painful.

if they do it right not so bad, each person has own tolerance to pain and ofcourse the heat of the wax.

I have only had a regular bikini wax once, and while it was painful, it was a quick painful, sort of like ripping off a band-aid (well probably a little worse). But I did not have any pain after the waxing, so you should be just fine for your trip. Have a nice vacation!
