Try Milicon drops. I might of spelled it wrong, but it's available at most drug stores, is safe and can help.

is it gas or colic. my cousin took her baby to a chiropractor. it seems so drastic but they can actually do minor things that help. my cousin swears by it. her daughter used to scream for 3-4 hours straight.

since she's breast feeding the only thing i can recommend is gas drops (they worked very well for my daughter).

Really great suggestions so far. I wish Mamasource had been around when my oldest kids were babies. They had colic, the first one just off the charts. But of course colic is not gassiness.

My son however did have a terrible gas problem. Almost as soon as he came home from the hospital. It took some careful detective work but we finally figured out that it was the milk that I was drinking. The doctor was sceptical at first, but admitted that a very small percentage of babies can be allergic to cow's milk even when filtered through Mom into breast milk.

All I knew was that when I cut out the dairy... his gas stopped.

And even today at 4 and 1/2 years old.. he still can't eat yogurt or drink milk. [When he was 2 he was able to eat small amounts of hard cheese (cheddar). And by the time he was 3 he could eat hard cheese in moderation and very small amounts of procesed sliced "american" cheese (kraft, velveeta, etc.)]

Just to show how allergic he still is, one day, when he was 3, someone at preschool accidentally gave him dairy milk (he can have only soy milk) and he had vomiting, raging diarhea, gas, and then broke out in a rash of little teeny tiny red pimply dots on his cheeks.

I have since met 2 other parents who report the dairy allergy that came with the baby being allergic to the breast milk when the mom drank milk.

This may not be your son's issue, but you might try discussing it with your doctor and then illiminating dairy for a couple weeks. If no improvement by then, it's something else.

With your gas however... I'd recommend trying the acidopholus tablets sold over the counter at the drug store. Who knows, maybe this too will filter through the breast milk! These tablets did wonders for one of my daughters after a really bad intestinal flu and fever killed off a lot of her good gut bacteria when she was five. Wow did she have nasty gas. With just a few days of taking the acidopholus tablets... she had a huge improvement. And within a week and a half, all better.

R.,

It sounds like her diet could be a big cause of it. Make sure she is drinking water. If you are giving her formula, make sure it's soy based and not milk. At her age milk can be very h*** o* her system. Also, vegetables such as broccoli are very harsh and can cause excess gas. Make sure that she is on a whole grain diet and not bleached grains as well. To gently clean her system, you can use liquid aloe. You can get this from me at www.herbalmom.com

Water is a big key. Make sure she is getting at least 4oz after eating.

Hope this helps.

I have found that fennel, camomile and mint really help. drinking mint or camomile tea(sleepytime from celestial seasonings has both. it doesn't make me sleepy, just calm) with every meal will ensure it gets into your breastmilk or you can mix some into her food. Camomile can't be tasted when mixed, if she doesn't like mint. Gripe water which is fennel flavoured you can give to your baby directly in a dropper or from a spoon. It's a common remedy in the UK. I know they have it at Mother Nature's on SE Clinton and 26th. Other than that, warm baths and gentle tummy massage will movr it out faster. Good luck!

What are YOU eating? If you are still nursing sometime what you eat makes a huge difference. Try a bland diet for a while and see if that changes anything. Through some trial and error I found that I cannot eat baked beans or really spicy foods or my daughter gets really gassy.

Good luck.

Have your doctor order a stool culture and parasitology analysis. The best lab for that in my experience is Doctor's Data. They will send you the kit for collection. She probably isn't sleeping well because she is in pain. Don't accept lets wait and see from your doctor. Find out what is going on.

I like to read books about herbal remedies and I came across a remedy for colic and/or gas...dill. If you make it into a tea and give it to your child little sips at a time, it's supposed to help.

Well, when my daughter was around that age I thought she always had bad gas as well, but it turned out she was allergic to milk products! I wish they would have let me test her before she turned 2, but I am glad she was she's been on soy milk since then, and no gas, no stomach problems what so ever I mightlook into that, its worth a shot!

Hi R.,
My son is 6 months old and for the two months, we have been trying to give him food, mostly applesauce and rice cereal. It doesn't matter if it is rice cereal and formula, just applesauce, applesauce with rice cereal-he is very gassy afterwards. We have tried feeding him food all different times of the day, but still gassy afterwards. So for now we just stick to the formula. We have a drs appt today so I will let you know what the dr says. But you are not alone.

In response to your actual question, yes, my daughter has the same problem (7 months) and has since she was born. It doesn't seem uncomfortable for her and it passes through easily, but she is a GASSY child! And when she farts, they're loud and they smell (most of the time we have to check her diaper just to make sure it was only gas). At the same time (as awful as it sounds) I have had gas pretty constantly since she was born as well, and she is breastfed. No amount of changing my diet has improved it, and recently I have started taking Gas-X because a lil bit of it goes through my milk and gets to her and it seems to help a bit. I feel for ya, I know what you're going through!

Hi R.!
My 9 month old son has acid reflux, so he is on zantac. But when he is extra gassy, I give him Mycolin, and it works wonders!!!
Also, since you are breastfeeding, try not to eat spicy food, drik soda or coffee, or foods that cause gas!
I hope this will help!

i breastfed my daughter and she too had really bad gas and stomach discomfort. the doctor diagnosed her with a reflux problem. however after this did not stop her pain, i started to experiment. i cut all dairy out of my diet completely to see if she had a mile allergy, after so many weeks of this with no improvement i decided to switch her to a lactose free formula. almost instantly there was improvement, she seemed totally content, slept better and you could tell the pain had lifted. its been about 5 months and shes still on formula and the tummy problems have been banished. most people dont know it but breastmilk actually has more lactose in it then formula. so if its lactose intolerance, thers nothing you can do to help ease the pain other than switch to formula. it was honestly the hardest decision i had to make as a mom. letting go of the mother child bond of breastfeeding was devestating, but it eased my babys pain. if thats what you decide to do dont feel guilty, and good luck
