My little boy has been waking up for the past week betweenn 3a-4a. every nite. He's a good eater and drinker (formula) and up until now a good sleeper. I gave him teething Tablets and Tylenol but he was only quieted after a 5oz bottle. Not Sure what to do. I know he doesn't need to be waking up like this but I'm not sure what else to do. Thanks for any help!

What can I do next?

try and add an extra evening feeding, either bottle or jar of food. MY pedi aslo mentioned that at that age they can start waking up just bc they miss us. MY daughter has done it several times and I haven't fed her bc I don't want her to get back into a habit of night eating. She usually will go back to sleep after 15 min.
Good luck with it! :)

Could be growth spurt, teething, or both. May need a little more food before bedtime to get him through the night, and maybe some tylenol before he goes to sleep.

It sounds like he's growing!!!
He just needs that extra bottle to quite his grumbling tummy..And its okay. Thats what little ones do when they grow..My youngest is 8 and about 6 mo. ago I heared him in the kitchen getting a bowl of ceral..it was 2:30am..He was hungry and it woke him up so he went into the kitchen for something to eat...He grew 2 sized in 6 weeks..so good luck and enjoy the little things...

Becky, thank you for posting this question. I have a 6 month old who has been waking the last few nights also. Thank you ladies for the advice on the growth spurts. I am a first time mom and am just trying to do the best for my baby. I appreciate all the wonderful moms on here willing to give their time by writing helpful advice.

It's probably a growth spurt and he may need to eat when he wakes up. Shouldn't last long. Feeding at night through growth spurts or teething or sickness won't start a habit. My son always goes back to sleeping all night when he passes through whatever is making him wake up. Just help him through this and then go back to your normal night routine when it's over. Maybe he has something cool in the works to show you like walking or saying a new word! Our pedi said not to give tylenol more than 5 days in a row even if they are teething - just fyi. Best wishes...

I no this is very hard to do but my Dr. told me not to go in and give him anything that it is a habit if he has been a good sleeper then he is now waking just out of habit. You can tell by the sound of your babies cry if it out of pain or because he nos you will come and meet his needs. It might take as long as aweek for him to stop crying at night.

I had to put cereal in an infa-feeder for my daughter when she started doing that. Instead of just a bottle at 10, she got 4 oz of cereal and whatever milk she would take....

Sounds like the 9 month growth spurt. I would feed him, and it make take more than a week, but he will stop waking up. Hang in there!

If it doesn't pass and doesn't turn out to be a growth spurt, look into getting a crib toy like the Fisher Price Flutterbye Soother. My daughter regularly woke up in the middle of the night and at 8 months I desperately sought a solution. I ended up getting that toy and after a few nights of us turning it on for her, she started turning it on herself and went to bed. We would hear it go on a few times each night through the baby monitor. It plays lullabye music and a rotating cartoon on the ceiling that the child can watch. My daughter used it even when she transferred to a toddler bed. I think she was three before she stopped using it. It was a lifesaver!

Sounds like he's going through a growth spurt. Feed him at 3 AM and after a week or so, see if he stops on his own.

Becky, just wanted to encourage you that this is probably just a phase. He may be going through a growth spurt espcially if he is only comforted by a bottle. Hang in there, it will be over soon!!!

Becky,

Most likely he could be going thru a growth spurt and/or teething as you suspect. He will want to eat more often during this time in either case and it will mess up his sleeping. Don't worry, it should only last for a couple of weeks.
