I have a little guy that just turned 9 months and has started having trouble sleeping. He was sleeping through the night and doing great at naps and now is waking up at 2 and 4 crying his heart out. He is also waking up after about 30 minutes into his naps doing the same thing. I am lost as to why. They only thing that has changed is that he has had a cold/cough, but that is getting better. Anyone else ever had this happen?

when he had the cold you rescued him when he got up, now it's become a habit and he thinks he should be rescued. You just have to retrain him that no, after I put you in this bed it's time to go to sleep and stay that way till two hours is up. It may be a few days of being mean, but then he and you will enjoy life much better cause he will be rested again.

Any teeth coming in? Change of diet for him or you if you are nursing? Just hang in there, you'll find out one of these. Or maybe he's just starting to realize he misses mom.

It normal for kids to need a refresher course in sleeping through the night after they have been sick or possibly cutting some new teeth. Or maybe his dietary needs have shanged and he is hungry/thirsty. Most of the kids I have watched go through this every couple months or so. Just redo whatever you did the first time around to get him to sleep through and be patient for the phase to pass. Don't be surprised if a new tooth pops out. The only thing I would watch for is if he is pulling at his ears, runs a new fever, or starts to run green/yellow from the nose. Sometimes when they have a cold it doesn't drain and turns into an ear infection. Lying down would increase pressure and therefore may make him uncomfortable and cry if he has one. Just keep an eye out, I'm sure he'll be a great sleeper in no time again!

K.,

Have you checked if he is getting any teeth? that could be why he's waking up.

Good Luck!

It happens sooner or later to most parents. Babies need to be well exercised, well feed, kept warm and snuggly all night. Make sure that little tummy is full and he's warm and cozy at bedtime. Also be sure to give him lots of fresh air during the day. Not too much liquid before bed, This just wakes them up to peepee.

My little one wakes up because of colds and teeth. And since they are away he wants t ohave a meal or snack (I nurse him). I feed him and put him back. But I do not get up right way I see if he will fall asleep first. But when are a teething or can not breath because of a cold it can be tough.

My little one also needed more food before bed to sleep through the night. And remember sleep breeds sleep. So his naps are not good, his nights are not going to be.
