You may want to follow up with her doctor. It sounds like she is dehydrated by the way of not having too many wet diapers. I would not wait too long to call because it can become much worse over time if whe is dehydrated.
Best of luck!

Sorry to hear your baby is having a hard time teething. I don't know about what you are already giving her, if the doctor told you to...well that's the doctor.
I swore by Hyland's Homeopathic - Teething Tablets. www.hylands.com/products/teething
they are awesome.
Also for food during those harder days, I found a net type food holder called "baby safe Feeder" you find it under that name at toys r us...
anyway, I would use fresh peaches, pears, cold bananas. Anything cold and mushy for them to suck on. they get some of the nutrition of good food, and also the comfort of something cold on the gums. it also helps the teeth come in a bit faster...
Good Luck, just remember...the teeth will come in eventually.

hi Maria,
Both my kids had a hard time teething but I made sure to give them plenty of fluids when they refused to eat so they didn't become dehydrated. Personally, I would contact my pediatrician. It could be a side effect of the antibiotic if it's one she's never had before. I would also say no to the antihistamine. Get a cold water humidifier instead. Both my kids use one and they do SO much better with it.

After 6 months, it is OK to give Motrin, and this was the only medication I found to help with teething pain. I do this every so often with my son and am often able to get him to eat. I would call your doctor to make sure about the lack of wetting diapers though. Just push as many fluids (milk, water with a splash of juice, Pedialyte). I wouldn't worry about the food as long as she is drinking her formula/breastmilk though. At 9 months, my son pretty much stopped eating but continued to drink his milk. That continues to this day! It's so frustrating but it sounds like she may feel pretty crummy and not eating with an ear infection is not abnormal at all!

If she's willing to drink her milk, then make sure she gets plenty of it. Try icing her gums (even when she fights you) until you feel she can drink a sufficient amount without pain. When a child is under 1 year, all they need is breastmilk or formula for nutrition's sake. So, if she can drink the milk, let her! I used to ice my babies gums, let her drink, then ice again when needed and let her drink some more, etc. They don't like the ice, but it does allow them to eat.

Call your pediatrician IMMEDIATELY about the lack of diaper wetting. With respect to the food issue, babies don't need food at this age for nutrition. It's just practice, so it's ok if a baby that age doesn't want to eat. Breast milk and/or formula meets their nutritional needs.

I would be concerned too! Antibiotics can really dehydrate and upset her tummy, especially paired with an antihistamine so make sure your baby is getting plenty of other liquids throughout the day. I would not be that worried about her not eating for a few days, especially if she's drinking her milk. I would call the Pediatrician about the lack of wet diapers. I would be worried about Dehydration.

I H. by using the word "milk" you are refering to formula. Your daughter should be drinking formula only at her age. Antibiotics typically surpress their appetite. Also, when teething they usually want cold things. Try to offer other cold things as well, but as long as she isn't losing weight this shouldn't last long. As soon as she's off the antibiotics her appetite should resume to normal.

I would get her into the doc immediately. Babies can get dehydrated really fast and it causes diarrhea and a number of serious issues. Especially if she is on an antihistamine. Don't chance it, take her in!

Did the doctor okay the antihistamine? That is most likely the cause of the dry diaper. It not only dries out your sinuses it dries out everything.

Maria,

Call the pediatrician immediately today! Babies should have 6 to 8 wet diapers a day minimum. She is probably dehydrating and that is very dangerous. As for the cold medicine, I H. the doctor told you to give it to her. Most of those types of medicines have been taken off te market.

Good luck,
C.

Little one's try us when they cut teeth in more than one way, colds, etc. May be something soft like mac and cheese even something like pan cakes they are having a hard time with the teeth right now and they hurt. Something cold like jello might get her to eat also. I know these are not all that good for them to eat but this will only last for a short time while they are cutting their teeth then watch out they will want food. Good luck.

As others have said, please call your pediatrician. If she is not having regular wet diapers, she is likely dehydrated and this can get out of hand fast with young babies.

Also, unless her pediatrician told you to give her antihistamines, you should stop this immediately and don't give her any more until you talk to the doctor. Cold medicines and antihistamines are generally not recommended for children this young and there are other things that you can do to manage congestion. These medicines can be very dangerous for babies unless given under a doctor's order.

Try giving her Tylenol an hour or so before she eats. Also make sure she is drinking plenty of milk, juice and water.

Not urinating is a sign of dehydration. Look at her fingernails and see if they are pale. Push down on them and if they seem like they're not filling back up with color then that might be a sign of dehydration. You can also look to see if her mouth is dry, that is also a sign. If she has those signs of dehydration, then you should take her to her doctor immediatly!
