J.,
Most of the children that I know have done that in the beginning of teething stage. Babies do it to test their teeth and practice chewing/carving skills that will be very useful when eating food. Mine did it for a while and in some occasions he still does it.

Her teeth are something new to her and it is a new sensation to have teeth. Lots of babies do it. I don't think there is a whole lot you can do about it at this age but my daughter eventually stopped doing it.

our ped. said it was totally normal and not to worry! he said it's because they now have these "things" (teeth) in their mouths that they didn't have before. they're just curious. both my kids did it too - and now they don't.

J., it's disturbing to hear them grind their teeth, my daughter now 18 months grinds her teeth, she also did it when she was younger with only a few teeth. I found out if you ignore the behavior, meaning don't react to it, they will stop on their own. Big thing is just don't make a big deal about it with your daughter or she'll keep doing it because she gets a reaction out of you.

my son did that when he first got his teeth. i think that it is something new in their mouth and it is something that discover that they can do. she will probably stop sooner before later. i would not worry about it too much.

both of my kids would grind their teeth at about that same age. It can sound very disturbing and I don't understand how or why they would want to do it, but their teeth are fine now and they are 5 and 3.
