My 8 months old baby has a rash and I can't figure out what the problem is. It is like eczema and is all over his little body from hips to ears. I do think it is allergies but am not sure. He is still breastfeed so it could be coming from what I eat. I did stop eating all dairy products many months ago since he would have a strong reaction every time I did (he would puke). The rash appeared about 2-3 weeks ago. The new food at that time was soy yogurt. I stopped giving that to him but the rash is still here so it could be a coincidence. He is also very sensitive to diaper rash and I had to go with disposables a few months ago. I'm not sure if his skin is just sensitive to everything and what I should do about it!! If any of you had a similar problem, I would be interested in knowing the outcome: was it allergies, did it go away, etc. Thanks for your help.

What can I do next?

I come from a family where everyone suffers with allergies (I get cystic hives!), which is why I started my line of personal care products. I make a wonderful skin calming agent that is great for any type of skin irritation: rash relief. It's available in oil or cream, and is also great for treating diaper rash and cradle cap. Take a look at my website: www.mccluckfarms.com

What kind of laundry detergent and bathing products do you use? Laundry detergent should be unscented and gentle, and some baby shampoos and bathing gels are highly irritating (we had problems with allergic reactions to many of the baby products). Also, look at baby's clothes to make certain that they are 100% cotton and that no snaps or metals come in contact with baby's skin. These are common allergenic sources, as well.

My youngest daughter's skin is very sensitive to chemicals on clothing and detergents. She get little hives all over. We use Costco's all natural chemical free laundry detergent and make sure all new clothes get washed before wearing. Some little ones are even more sensitive than my not- so-little one. Look at everything that touches his skin for possible chemicals.

Put some colloidal oatmeal (Walgreen's carries a cheap box of packets) in his next bath. It will help soothe and protect his skin.

If it gets worse, isn't going away or is making him miserable, take him to the doctor.

Hope he feels better soon!

J., we started using Renew from a company called Melaleuca and we use their laundry detergent. My son, who had severe eczema and ultra-dry skin, now has no problems. I agree with other moms, though...check with the doc to make sure it's not something more serious first. But if they just prescribe topical creams, the Renew lotion did wonders for us.
