I have had eczema for years so it isn't alarming but I am having a heck of a time treating his. The doctor said that otc coritzone is fine but it isn't working and I prefer not using the coritizone on him. I have tried bag balm but it isn't doing much either. I have a great daycare provider who is on board with whatever regime I choose and will be great at helping. Any advice? One mom mentioned neosporin...

What can I do next?

My understanding is this. What foods is he eating? He could be allergic to something and therefore causing the eczema. My son has outdoor allergies, we had eczema issue until he was 1 over the summer and then it went away. This year he has allergies. It could be a food or environmental. The cortiszone worked well for my little guy. They say not to use the heavier lotions on the face.

I've heard the Aveeno line of lotions are great at helping with eczema. I'm going to try it on my leg since the heater in my car gave me eczema on my shin this winter and I still haven't been able to get rid of it... :(

He probably is allergic to something. I cut out dairy from my son's diet and his eczema completely cleared up. I am of the mentality that its best to treat the source not the symptoms. There are lots of possible allergens but Diary is a biggie.

My daughter had bad eczema. We got a cream at the health food store. It's Calendula Cream. It works great. They also suggested that she may have an allergy to cows milk and to switch her to soy. We tried it and within 3 days the eczema was gone. Our ped never once told us that it could be caused by a milk allergy. They just had us using the cortisone cream. I hope this helps.

A little info. from the wholistic perspective on this. Eczema is the body's way of showing you something is out of balance in the body. It is connected to the liver processing toxins. So, as some others have mentioned, the best way to look at this is from the inside out. You can treat the symptoms. I agree, stay away from cortizone(immune depressant) Calendula is a safe remedy to use. There are also other homeopathic options, and creams at the health food store. The most important thing is to look at the diet. Eliminating processed foods, and common allergens. Dairy is usually the culprit. So, that does mean anything with milk, whey, casein. There are great alternatives, rice, almond, coconut and hemp milks. Rice cheese( without casein) and all types of non dairy ice creams. Look out for wheat, and soy as well. Look for a good naturpath to help you. You are near VA beach. There are plenty of great ones there.

it will be worse when he is hot - make sure he stays cool. get the california baby calendula cream. it was the only thig that worked for my daughter. in the baby aisle at target. none of the prescription creams worked at all. try to limit bathing him until you have it under control. when you do bathe him - as soon as he is out and toweled off - rub the cream in while the pores are open. my dd's was terrible to the point where it oozed. 2 days on this cream and it was incredible...it did what cortizone couldnt do. best thing to is it is natural. we used it at least 3 times a day until it got better and i still use it now even though most of her eczema is gone - its good for diaper rash also

My daughter had eczema as a baby (starting at 6 weeks old) until I discovered that she had a milk allergy. The doctor did NOT suggest this - he said it was a "normal baby rash", but I just tried cutting out various foods to see if anything made a difference. (I was nursing so this meant I cut the foods out of my diet.) She was tested a year later and milk came up as one thing she was allergic to. Around 9 months I tried a little milk again and she had no eczema, but non-stop ear infections until I made the connection and stopped the milk again. I would look in to whether he is allergic to something.

For my son's eczema, I LOVE Cetaphil. We've tried lots of stuff (Eucerine, Burts Bees, an all-natural lotion/wash), but this has been my favorite. We use their moisturizer (in a big tub) and bar soap.
Also, we have a lotion prescribed by the dr. that is Eucerine with a hydrocortisone in it for the bad patches. Works great!
I would talk it over again with your dr. Many times there are underlying causes like allergies to foods or environment. If you can get at the cause, you can really make a difference in the symptoms.
Good luck!

We tried Aquaphor when my kids were infants and it worked for a little while. Found it was better to use during the winter months. Currently we use Aveeno Baby Soothing Relief Creamy Wash and Soothing Relief Moisture Cream for eczema.

My son (5 years) has had off and on Eczema issues since an infant. We have been given prescriptions and tried specialized treatments, but I have only found two things that work: Aveeno Baby soothing creme (dark blue cap) and Cetaphil lotion. Rub the lotion not just on the cheeks, but all over. The skin is one large organ and all of it needs to be moisturized to help heal the damaged area,

I'm experiencing eczema for the first time because I'm on Accutane. I have found one thing that seems to help - Shae butter. I order mine from www.herban.net - I met the owner at a garden show and she mentioned that she is pretty obsessive about using the highest quality, organic ingredients that she can find. For me, it has worked pretty well in getting rid of the eczema.

we treated it with a layer of cortisone followed by a layer of Eucerin cream (the think stuff, not the lotion--it resembles crisco). when my daughter was a baby they were going to enroll her in a study and I talked at length with a dermatology nurse who recommended that regimen. she looked like a ghost, but it worked. Also keep them dry, very few baths. You may want to find a pediatric dermatologist in your area.

My daughter, ever the skeptic, rolled her eyes when I suggested Grandma El's, now thinks it's amazing. Primarily used for diaper rash. Her daughter has eczema and this seems to help alot. All natural. If you get in touch, I would be happy to send you samples. I hate to sound like an informercial, but my 24 yo nephew even used it for a burn.

Check it out.

Having not read the responses, I am just gonna tell you what works for my family. We all have dry skin, but my middle child has eczema, the only thing tha works him is Renew Lotion. There is also a body wash that is helping. It is not greasy, and can be used the entire family. My youngest has eaten it several times, the worst thing she got was an upset stomach for an hour. I hope that this helps

My dd has excema on her arms and legs. I use coconut oil, like you get from the store to cook with, about 3x per day and it has decreased. I also use aloe which seems to decrease it as well. You know the deal about diet if people haven't already told you. You can also add some ptroleum jelly which is all aquaphor,(with some other stuff) is anyway. That seals it so it won't dry out. Wash te area once a day and go from there. Good luck.

Hi. My daughter had a terrible time with eczema all over her body, but especially her face. At such a young age, I absolutely did not want to use any chemicals on her either. It was when our regular pediatrician was on vacation that we saw one of her partners who told me to try CeraVe. It was right next to Eucerin and a bunch of other creams there at Walgreens! Utimately, what we decided to do was to get the severe state of the eczema under control with a Rx steroid ointment (1-2 thin applications), then maintain with the CeraVe. It was the only thing that worked for us! And I even ordered emu oil from some ranch in Montana, I was so desperate! She is 18 months now, and the summer heat is forcing the eczema to present again, but so far the CeraVe is really controlling it beautifully. Good luck! I hope this works for you!

My husband suffers from severe eczema all over, as does my best friend and her two small children. She turned my husband on to the non-Rx product from this website: http://www.hillderm.com/products/index.shtml

My husband already uses the DermaSmoothe scalp oil (Rx from dermatologist), but my friend uses this non-Rx item all over the kids' bodies and it works great! https://www.hillderm.com/productcart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idpro...

I'm lucky to not suffer from this, but those who do have found these two items very helpful.

Good luck!

My daughter has it too, and has even since she was born. She got my sensitive skin!

When the OTC doesn't work and its bad and really painfully itchy to her we have to use the prescription creams. They work wonders and clear it up in 1 day!

I would talk to your pedi and see if you can get something for when the others aren't working...your child will be much happier! : )
