I just found out of my pregancy through HPT a week and half ago. This will be number three =) we are very exceited but concerned. I'm having very severe cramps like menstrual cramps and have had no nausea yet. very odd from from my last two pregnacy. I've heard cramps can be a sign of miscarriage?? Wondering if anyone has experienced symptoms like this before. I havn't had my first prenatal visit yet =( it won't be for another two weeks.....

What can I do next?

I actually had terrible cramps with my first. I don't get menstrual cramps usually, so since I hadn't taken a pregnancy test yet, I thought it was probably a failed attempt, but after a week or so, they went away, and then I took the test and it came back positive. :) I was also concerned and asked my dr. about it and she said sometimes when the embryo is implanting in the uterine wall it can cause cramping like that. Hopefully you'll get to skip out on the nausea, but mine started about a week later.... Congratulations!

Hi A. - I wanted to let you know I am 17 weeks with twin boys. I have cramped from day one! My doc said this was perfectly normal. These are my first babies, so I am extra cautious. I'm not saying you're having twins, but I will tell you that I know how you feel. I was horrified that something was wrong. My babies are growing very well so far. Take it easy and just be. That has helped me! Good Luck!!! :o )

I'm pregnant with our 2nd, and during the first few weeks I had pretty bad cramping too. Cramping up front and even in my back. It passed though, and so far everything looks good! As long as it's not accompanied with bleeding, I wouldn't worry too much.

If you're concerned though, you should call your doctor to try and get some peace of mind.

(Btw, love your name! =p)

At about week 4 or 5 I had some cramping and a little spotting. When I was able to get into my doctor, she did an internal ultra sound and everything was okay. I asked her what could have been causing the spotting and cramping and she said that occasionally when the baby is embedding itself some women will have the above symptoms. She said it does not happen with all women and it could happen with one pregnancy and not another in the same woman. This was only my experience and I too was very worried. Your doctor can check your hormone levels through a blood test to see if you are miscarrying or if you have a tubal pregnancy. You may request this if you are unable to get into see your doctor right away. Only you know your body, and if you are worried about what is going on get it checked out.

Hope everything goes well and you have a safe pregnancy and a healthy baby!

I had cramps after my HPT, I kept thinking that the test was wrong and I was going to start my period any time. Well, my 13 month old is taking a nap as I write this. I am not sure about cramps being normal...but I had them to and all was well, however if you are not 100% comfortable I would call you doctor and see if they can see you so that you will be at ease.

Hi there!
I had cramps when i was first pregnant. It turned out that i had a cyst on my ovary due to the change in hormones. It went a way on its own with in a week or so. You OB caould tell you if you have one or not. Hope this helps

I've only had one child, but early in my pregnancy I had wicked cramping and some spotting. I could have sworn that my period was going to come any minute. My nausea didn't show up until week 7 or so...(I had thought I was out of the woods and one of the lucky ones HA).
Each preg is different from what I hear, so hang in there.

With my first two, I never had cramps until my labor contractions... but with my third I had cramps like yours BAD... the whole pregnancy.

My doc said it was ligament pains from stretching or something. All I know is they hurt BAD. I figured since it was my thrid, I was already stretched lol, but I guess I was wrong.

WHen I was pregnant with my first, I also had cramps. I thought I was getting my period...which I had been waiting for.
If it is really bad or you have bleeding, you should see your Dr. Cramping at this point is normal from what I read back then.

As others have already told you, it might be nothing to worry about. I had TERRIBLE cramping with my first -- so bad I nearly cried. I thought for sure I would miscarry. But I never even spotted. The pregnancy went absolutely fine and the cramps stopped very suddenly one day. For me this was all very early - the cramps stopped after the 5th week. I did not have any cramping with my second and third, so who knows? Good luck.

I had severe menstrual like cramping as well with my 3rd I had an ultrasound and showed all was normal but the only thing it was,was the attachement to the uterine wall and that was a good sign because baby is showing good development so early.

Hi, when I was in I think my 2nd month, I started having some cramps, and light bleeding here an there. It ended up being that I had a couple hemorrhages around the sac & baby. It was a big scare, went to ER and the DR there couldn't read a sonogram period, had to wait to see OB and was relieved to find out it was hemorrhages and nothing serious. So make an appointment with your OB as soon as you can, and best wishes & good luck!

A.,

Remember every pregnancy is different ! I had bad cramping with my second and she is almost 18 months old :) I had a friend who had bad cramping AND bleeding the whole 9 months amd her baby is just fine almost a year old now ! If you are concerned call your doctor that is what they are there for. I called my doctor ALL the time, I'm sure I was pretty annoying lol, but it's their job. Both of my pregnancies were COMPLETELY different .... I wouldnt be to worried about it ! Congrats !

Hi A.!

I was crampy at first with both my babies, it always felt like I was about to start. I have had horrible/severe cramps while I was on my period, to the point to where I couldnt function, sometimes it felt like contractions it was soo bad! But thats my definition of severe. When I was pregnant, like I said it was crampy like I was about to start, wouldnt call them severe. So if its a little cramping I would just let your doc know, they will probably investigate it just to be on the safe side, my doctor did with both babies, and everything was fine. But if you really think they are severe and something is wrong I would call asap. Im used to cramps so I didnt think it was too bad. Also I know they say every pregnancy is different and I found that to be true with both of my pregnancies. Good luck with baby and Im sure everything is fine.

I also had that cramping with my third, even though I had none with my first two.

When in doubt, always call your doctor about anything that worries you, but I am betting all is well.

With my DD, I had horrible cramps, to the point that I truly thought I was having a m/c. My doctor said that during a pregnancy after the first, your body knows what to do already, so it tries to do it faster than it's supposed to. Hang in there, it does get better! Congrats and I hope you have a healthy and happy 9 months!

I am 5 months along with my 5th, I had never had any cramping with my other 4 children. But with this one in the beginning I had alot of cramps, I asked the doctor and he said alot of times women who have had other children can feel some cramping. But if it was me, just to be on the safe side I would call and let your ob know what is going on.
Good luck.
