7 Month Old Does Not like Any of the Baby Foods We've Tried So Far

Hi dear moms. My son Dylan is now 7 months old. We've started him on cereals (rice, oatmeal, barly) and he loves them. However, he HATES the fruits and vegtables we've tried so far (carrots, apples, pears, bananas)(Earth's Best, and Organics brands). We put the food in his mouth and he starts making these funny faces, and looks completely disgusted and tries to push it out of his mouth. If we keep giving him more he starts to get really upset and cries a type of cry he has never done before. I guess that's the "I don't like this food cry!"
Anyway, I'm thinking of skiping the jars and going fresh. A friend of mine told me she cooks the apples, etc. then purees them then gives it to her baby. How do you guys do it?? Do I have to cook everything, even fruits before giving it to him?
Thank you all.
Best,
S.

hi, well did you try mixing the veggies with the cereal? {mix one veggie with cereal and lil of milk that you provide for your child. NO you cant use fresh food because for one the baby stomach is not fully develop. my son likes meat{mix with ceral}, veggie{mix with cereal}, and fruit {without cereal}. try little at a time. dont go soild foods. try gerber products their the BEST that i would recommand.

Have you tried them? They are awful! Honestly, I don't understand why people waste their money on jarred food, aside from convenience issues, I'd go for fresh all the way. Taste a steamed carrot (plain, nothing on it) next to jarred carrots, there is no comparison. You don't have to cook everything. But apples, carrots, anything hard you are going to want to make softer. Either steam them for a bit and mash with a fork, or cut in to tiny pieces - this will all depend on how many teeth your little guy has too. But with both of mine, I never pureed at this age, I just steamed until soft then cut in to small pieces. Sweet potatoes were a favorite, pees (don't need to steam), carrots, apples, peaches, bananas, avocados, mango, (just naming some favorite first foods here), also, let him start feeding himself, either with his hands or a utensil. Enjoy!! This is such a fun time!!

Certain foods you don't have to cook first I think. I use to do; papaya, mango, banana, peeled grapes, etc (all easily smashed with just a fork). Also, sometimes it takes many tries before a baby gets used to a new food. If he spits it out, then just try again a week or so later, and again and again until you've tried about 8-10 times (and yes, this is seriously a pain, but if you want to avoid having a picky eater later on, this is a good way of doing it). Good luck!

cooking will make them softer, but you can give them raw soft fruits or veggies. I used to scrape the side of the banana with a spoon, rather than trying to mush it. That was my suggestion was make it yourself. Try to mix the fruits with some milk and see he will take it that way. It is pretty normal for the food to be new to them and for them to push it back out at first.

He's only 7 months old.
A baby's "taste buds" are not even fully developed yet. And they don't taste food like adults do.

The fruits/veggies are just probably too tangy/sweet for him. AT THIS POINT. Remember, their taste buds are not fully developed yet... and won't be until about 2 years old or so, if I remember correctly.

A baby is not going to be eating a full on feast at this point.

The jarred foods...are just cooked and pureed too...and don't have preservatives etc.
