My 6yr old dd woke up today and told us her tummy hurt, but then seemed fine told us she felt better even ate breakfast. We sent her to school (she begged to go) and they called us not to long after saying she was vomiting. We got her home and she has vomited a few times since. I have also noticed her having this really gruff deep cough out of nowhere, she is only running low grade temp. could the cough and vomiting be related or is it just a fluke?? Should I call the Dr ? Im not too concerned with the vomiting ...yet its not that bad but with the cough out of the blue concerns me. Thanks

What can I do next?

There seems to be one or two wide spread viruses right now. One is causing low grade fevers and a cough. The other is causing vomiting and diahrrea. Only, it seems that everyone I know that has had one has also had the other. So I'm wondering if it's the same virus. It sucks and as I sit here typing this I have been vomiting this morning and just had the first hints of a cough this morning too.

My son started vomitting out of the blue. I thought it was the flu. The way he was barfing was horrible.
He had no fever, but he was hurling to the extreme.
It started with a cough first. A really yucky cough. And then the barfing.
I took him to the doctor and he had acid reflux.
Acid from his stomach was burning his throat, even though he never complained of burning, and stuff was coming up in his throat which gagged him and made him throw up.
He was given a medication and we propped him up when he slept. We had to be careful what he ate and when.
He only took the medicine for a short time but it quit the vomitting immediately.
Like I said....cough plus throwing up.....I thought it was the flu. After a week I took my son to the doctor.
It was a tummy problem.

He's fine now by the way.
No further problems.

Best wishes.

I don't know about your area, but there is a stomach virus running around the schools (and elsewhere) here. I haven't heard of coughing going with it. It could be that the vomiting is irritating her throat, causing the coughing; vomit can be very acidic.Be sure she's not dehydrating.

I would call the doctor now and describe it and your concerns. If she continues to vomit etc. take her in sooner rather than later. I don't want to be scary, but appendicitis involves vomiting and (some) fever. My daughter was vomiting a bit, had virtually no fever, and only a little generalized abdominal soreness -- and it turned out to be the early stages of appendicitis. So while the chances are slim this is the same thing, it's worth keeping tabs on. Much likelier it's just a basic virus, but follow your instinct and ask the doctor.

Okay, we just went through this.. first with myself (a 45 year old male) a week ago. Headache, Vomiting, a cough, low grade fever, dizziness. My 3 year old went through it starting Thursday morning at 4:30 am, and kept the fever throughout Saturday evening. We treated the fever with children's Tylenol for him ( check dosage for your childs weight and age and call your pediatrician) (the vomiting seemed to subside Friday evening). My wife only came down with a headache this weekend and my 19 month daughter has come down with the fever and some diarrhea, no vomiting (which hit my son and I but not the others) We are using Ibuprofen for her fever but letting it go until it gets above 101 (so that the body can fight the virus) Anyway, Not sure if it was a combination of two viruses or one big bug that presents differently for some than others, but don't panic.. keep the kids and yourselves hydrated, (Ice pops are wonderful for this) keep the meals light, and get as much rest as you can. It will pass.

It depends...is she coughing until she vomits? Or is the vomitting happening on its own without coughing attacks preceeding it? If she is coughing until she vomits, I would go to the dr. If she is just coughing and vomitting I would wait because it is probably just a fluke and a stomach virus that will run its course.

uhg My 2 year old has the same thing right now, he got it from my 8 month old. he has been up for 4 nights "barking" and gagging and throwing up with diarrhea. We just give him pedialite and food that is gentle on his stomach and use a vaporizer. We were giving him advil fro his throat but now that he is vomiting that is no good. I am no help but I am there with you. rest as much as u possibly can.

Call the doctor. It could be many things, but you need to know what. If your daughter inhaled vomit, she should be seen right away. Your doctor will want to see her to be sure what is going on here.

could be mucus build up from the cough that made her throw up.

Both of my boys will cough to the poin it causes them to vomit with my oldest it's generally when he has an asthma flare from cold or allergies with my youngest it's generally a post nasal drip cough at night that causes it. So yes they could be related. Call your ped they will tell you if she should be seen or not.

Call the Doctor tomorrow, take her in for an appointment.
She will probably not go to school tomorrow... not like that.
