6 Year Old Wetting the Bed - Montgomery,IL

My daughter, who was potty trained at 2, did not consistently stay dry through the night until she was seven. I have a friend whose daughter is still wetting the bed at eight. My opinion is that in cases like these, the only thing to do is wait until they grow out of it, making sure not to make them feel guilty in the mean time. Being made fun of at a sleepover is hard. Could he be protected from that by wearing a pull-up and learning to through it away in the morning without anyone knowing? That's what my friend's daughter did when she slept over at our house, and no one knew but me.

I'm so sorry you and your son have to experience this. My son went through it until he was 10 or 11. The ONLY thing that finally worked was the nighttime potty alarm system. It worked like MAGIC! In a very short amount of time, as I recall...perhaps just a week or two.

My brother had a problem with wetting the bed until he was about 10 years old. What finally worked for him was one of those alarms that goes off at the first detection of urine. You could try that?

That's the only thing I can think of. My son is almost 4 and he's still wearing pull-ups. Sometimes he'll sleep without if he falls asleep in the car ride home or something and sometimes he's wet in the morning and sometimes he's dry.

I think talking to the dr is a great idea but you could also try the alarm thing??

It's not THAT uncommon for a 6 yr old, especially a boy, to still be wetting. Without reading the other posts, (someone might have mentioned this already- sorry if it's a repeat!), my guess is allergies. My daughter wets during allergy season quite a bit and she just turned 7 herself.

Ask the dr to refer you to a pediatric allergist. My daughter had the prick-test done in her back and nothing came up, but we are positive she DOES have some sort of allergies and Claritin (over the counter) seems to help her quite a bit, as does occasional Benadryl before bedtime on the worst days. Also, I have heard that Home First (medical practice in our area) does some sort of homeopathic testing that is more reliable that you might want to check into. Apparently you hold some sort of sensor in your hand while watching a movie and they somehow introduce you to different allergens and your hand responds (not sure if needles or how...)

Good luck. I know it is very frustrating and heartbreaking to see him go through this, but he is NOT alone.
