6 Month Old STOPPED Sleeping Through the Night!! - Carmichael,CA

At about 4 months, my daughter finally started sleeping through the night (at least 6 un-interrupted hours), and by 5 months, she usually slept up to 9 hours without waking! I was just getting used to (and loving) our new sleep routine when last week, she started waking up 2-3 times a night to eat! I've tried giving her more solid food and nursing her longer in the evening before bed, but so far, I've had no luck! I wake up every morning at 5am so I can do school work before the kids wake up, and this new routine of hers has me completely wiped out!
She was a successful night sleeper before - I need advice on how to get her back on that routine.

What can I do next?

It could be a growth spurt? Is she learning a new development skill such as sitting up- that always messed up my daughter for a couple weeks. I think you should continue giving her as much food in the day, but I wouldn't feed her at night unless you are sure she is actually hungry. 6 months old can usually go all night (10-12 hours) without eating, but they still will wake up for cuddling or nursing if you let them. Sleep was super important to me, so I put my daughter on a strict feeding schedule and she was always in the 99% so I didn't have to worry about that.

I had one that simply went back to her routine after the growth spurt and another (the first) that got a cold, then teeth, then a growth spurt, then started crawling, started climbing.... I think my nursing him didn't help the situation. (I'm definitely pro nursing, and still nursing an 19 mos old, but I'm more pro sleeping once the kid is a decent size)

My pediatrician suggested trying to knock out one of those feedings by giving a pacifier or a lovey for as long as that will last. With the non-sleeper, that worked, as the following night the kid would sleep a little longer. The consensus among the moms on my block (there are 20 kids under 4...) was that kids who were nursed through the night tended to wake up to get nursed because it was so nice, but the ones that got a pacifier or bottle in the middle of the night were quicker to go back to sleep.

I'm sorry to say my daughter did the same thing. Is your daughter getting some teeth? My daughter had a tooth coming in, but then it floated back down. Her sleep didn't return until she was about 11 months old. It's a mean trick they play =o)

Your daughter might also be getting ready to go through her 6 mo growth spurt. It seems that around this time most babies will start eating more in preparation for growing quickly, and when they need to eat they're going to eat.

Although this didn't work for me, I do know couples that have split night feedings. With you being so tired and overworked maybe your husband would agree to take one of the night feedings?

I know it's difficult not getting a good nights sleep, my 17 mo still doesn't consistently sleep through the night. Hang in there it can't last forever (right!?!),

See my response to the request after yours about 12 month old weaning night feedings. Sounds like you are back to square one. I put my life (and this company should be paying me for the advertising) on the SleepEasy Solution by www.sleepyplanet.com. You gradually wean her of the night feedings over a week's time. Try it. Good luck.
