6 Month Old Sleep Problems?

Hi,
My little girl just turned 6 months old and has always been a good sleeper. Lately during bedtime/naptime she will roll back and forth in her crib and can't fall asleep. After an hour of this she gets overtired and is a mess and we end up having to bounce her to sleep. For the past week it's been taking us a few hours to get her to sleep. She's fine once she's down, but we're exhausted! I'm not one for CIO, so any other suggestions would be really appreciated! Thanks so much!

I know your a first time mom but unless you want to be rocking her to sleep when shes ten you better start letting her cry it out or you'll be rocking her to sleep for years to come there is nothing wrong with a baby crying right before they fall asleep its a sign of being tired and sometimes actually helps a baby settle down. Also she may just be discovering rocking back and forth in the crib and being more mobile and she may be enjoying this do you give her enough floor time to explore when shes not sleeping? she may only have a chance to do this when shes in the crib i would suggest letting her have tummy time and rolling time on the floor when shes not sleeping so she can get this out of her system. Babies sleep patterns and needs are constantly changing and you will find that just when you think you have a routine going she will change it for you.

Good luck!
From H.

Is she teething? I know that my son doesn't sleep well when he's cutting a new tooth? Look at her gums... are they white or cresting? Is she gnawing on things and drooling? If so, try some Tylenol about thirty minutes before bed time.

My daughter is almost 15 months old and my experience has been that babies change their sleep patterns constantly. Lately she's having a hard time falling asleep so, instead of holding her, I stand with my hand on her back and gradually take it off. Then I slowly leave the room. When she was much younger, we had a Baby Einstein aquarium soother in her crib and it worked wonders. You could also try that.

Is she teething?? She might not mind the pain when she is awake and there are distractions, but it will interfere with being able to fall asleep.

I'm going through the same thing and remember from my other two kids that this is when they learn to roll over so they are just distracted when they are falling asleep by the ability to roll around.

One thing that I tried that helped with my daughter (still waiting for it to work with this one) is the mobile that would keep her lying on her back and not rolling. I made sure that it was high enough that she couldn't reach it so that she didn't try to touch the animals (you could also make sure that it doesn't rotate).

For my son, it was all about giving him a stuffed animal to suck on - the small ones that are like little blankets and that worked for him.

I keep telling myself it is just a phase to help me get through it, but it is really hard. I wish you luck!

her sleep times are probably changing... try keeping her up about 1/2 - 1 hour later at nap times.. then put her down.. also at night... try 1/2 hour later.. this may help... good luck
