Out of nowhere, my daughter asked why she sees colors and shapes sometimes. She really didn't seem bothered or concerned, it was like it just popped into her head at that moment.
I asked her when she sees them and she said 'mostly when people are talking, but sometimes when I'm playing in my room by myself;. She said they look like rainbows or just blobs of color...mostly pink or purple (those are her favorite colors)
For a 5 year old, she doesn't have an outrageous imagination, she generally sees it and tells it like it is.
She does talk about seeing 'Angels' or family members that have passed away and will, out of the blue, tell me that 'Great Grandma is really happy that she can walk again'
Anyone have any idea what this could be?
I know what my hippie mom would say! She'd say the baby has a gift.
It sounds pretty wonderful. Like a super power. I'm kinda jealous.
But, I'm a worry wart that has seen too way many episodes of House. I'd take her to the dr and ask for a head CT, stat!
I've heard of this, people seeing colors with sounds, some people "taste" sounds too. It's usually the whole spectrum of color and not just "favorites", but you can probably find something on it online.
As for seeing people, I guess it's all about what you believe. I believe she may be "sensitive" and be actually seeing ghost/spirits/energy. I think the best thing for you to do is to believe her. You can't do much because you can't see them too, but you can help give her confidence in herself. Some say that all little ones see, but that they grow out of it mostly. She may or may not. If she doesn't then you need to help her have strength in herself because with the "angels" comes the "shadows". She needs to be able to be strong enough to tell the scary ones to go away.

Go for the science here, please. Do some research on synesthesia. This is NOT an affliction or a disease but simply the way some folks see the world due to their brain wiring: Letters can have colors, musical notes can have colors too, or words or music can have "flavors" people experience. It is caused (scientists believe) in brains where certain areas for processing language and areas for color etc. fire off so close to each other that they mingle, so words have colors. But there are other manifestations. Rent the episode of the PBS NovaScienceNow series about how brains work, to learn more.
She may or may not be a synesthete but if she is there is nothing wrong with it or with her -- in fact, she is going to see the world in wonderful ways. On the other hand she may simply be very sensitive to color, or much more imaginative than you realize!
The angels thing is likely her way to cope with deaths. It is very typical for young children to believe they can hear or talk to the dead and it helps them feel in control. Don't discourage her. I do not think it is related to the colors.

Sounds like she can see a person's aura... There is a lot of info as such on the net. It's kinda like reading a person's energy but you relate a color to it..

'auras.' Some people are sensitive to them, and can see them. Check it out.

Kids see them easily and naturally.
(That's why when they start drawing, they draw a purple or green blob for someone's head, etc. Then they are "taught" by adults not to see them by being told "No. no. We draw a person THIS way.." etc.)

Yes it sounds like she can see auras...the other possibility is that she has "synesthesia" which I noticed someone else said too. None of these things are bad, it's just she's more sensitive than the rest of us.
She sounds like she has a wonderful gift, don't discourage or discredit it! As for seeing angels and deceased family members.. the veil that separates us from the "other side" is much thinner for children and, possibly, because of her gift, it allows her to see through it more clearly. I truly believe that she has seen her great grandmother who has been freed from her mortal form. We do not cease to exist once we pass away. I have to say, I am slightly jealous of your daughter. I would love to see the world in the way she does. I only pray that as she grows older that she doesn't lose it :)
Leigh R sounds like she is on the right track. i read a book called "phantoms of the Brain" it was mostly about phantom limbs (when people can still feel an arm or leg after it has been amputated.)
just because the arm was gone, doesnt mean the parts of the brain that took care of that arm is gone.
now of course she isnt missing a limb, but it sounds totally plausible that she has some areas of the brain that are just overlapping or working together differently.
it sounds pretty cool. get her a journal and enroll her in a couple of art classes and go with it!
I see particles of light that sound like the rainbows and blobs of color. As for the rest I guess you could swing either way, she either has a great way of coping with people dying or she does see them

Again it's auras. Here is something you can try: Stare at something - not intensly just stare then look away from the object you will probably see a white/silver glow as you stop looking - that is the object's energy.

U might want to check her eyes n have the dr check her. Just to make sure there's nothing more going on. If she's fine than I would just listen n take it. Be fine with it but if she's seeing spots I would think there's something oing on. Is she off balance?
