Here is a gift that I love to give for special occasion like this because you can customize it to say whatever you want it is a wish bowl...you could have wishes for the next 50 years....

They are not cheap but they are great you can work with the artist to customize the words to say what you want and also have an inscription put on the back...good luck.

Parents just had theirs last weekend and unfortunatley one parent is in pretty poor health so planning a trip for them was not an option which was our original thought about 5 yrs ago to celebrate. We decided among my siblings and I to hire a photographer. We had some great casual outdoor pictures taken of them alone and the entire immediate family with them who came for their celebration. We will have thier favorites enlarged, some put on canvas, and any they want framed when they pick out the best and also do an album too. THey loved the idea since they have everything are downsizing to move to assisted living by the EOY. Presently they don't live close to any of their grown children, but are moving close soon. Other ideas my siblings and I had for them were matching kindles, an I-pad to share family pics or a lap-top, but they are not computer savy and said they were not up to learning how to work them. Proofs will be back soon and they are eagerly awaiting them as are we. Hope this helps.

For our parents 50th I asked each of my brothers and sisters to have a family photo taken and send me a 5x7 I took the most recent 5x7 I could find of my parents and took it to our local frame shop and they made the best framed photo with them in the middle and us around them. Our parents love it and it hanging in their main hallway. There has since been new additions to the family and my dad has them added in a seperate frame next to the parents.

There are many things you can do......if you are good at crafts, make them a scrapbook of their family........if not, try to get a picture frame and make a collage'.........There is plenty to find at Things Remembered....you should have one in a mall somewhere near you.........but something personal or personalized would be great.......

You could also try to find something from the year they married to give them........I think just being there and helping them celebrate will be nice too.......

I'm sure if you look around and ask questions, you will find something they would like to have but just "never spent the money for it."

Good Luck and congrats to them.....

For my parents 40th, we put together a photo album/scrapbook of the kids and grandkids by each of us donating photos. They loved it.

My in-laws celebrated their 50th a couple of years ago. We had a family picture done with everyone. Kids, spouses & grandkids. This was a really big deal because my husband is the youngest of 10 and our daughters are 32 & 33 for grandchildren. The kids were on the fence about having their mom and dad be in the picture or having the picture be a surprize. They ended up having their mom & dad in the pic. They also had a mass for them and everyone attended then went to brunch. It was very nice.

Good luck & remember that sometimes it's the little things that mean the most.

You would have to work fast but the best gift I can think of is a VoiceQuilt. This is a fairly inexpensive was to give a lifetime of memories.

That's very special- congratulation to them! My parents are celebrating their 50th in October. My brothers and sisters and I got together and surprised them with a weekend trip to Mackinaw Island- a place that they love to go. We also had an early celebration for them over the summer when all of my siblings and all of the grandchildren, cousins, etc. could fly in and be together. Many photos were taken so I plan to make a photo book (Shutterfly or Kodak) for them to open on the actual day of their anniversary.

My in-laws just celebrated their 50th two years ago. For them my husband and I got together with his siblings and organized a family portrait and had it nicely framed. They also had a special mass in honor of their celebration and a family party.

For my parents 50th, I took all their photos of when they were each growing up, dating, marriage, vacations, children and grand children and great grandchildren being born in chronologocial order and sent them away to a company that puts them into video form with music. It recapatured their entire lives together. As the family grows and changes you can add more pics just by returning the video with more pics to be added. Everyone loved it. It is a chersihed memory of lifetimes to be watched over and over again.

If you are good on the computer you could scan pictures of their life throughout the past 50 years and add music that they enjoyed through those years and make a nice movie for them that they can watch forever.

A romantic gift basket is nice ... a bottle of wine or champagne and a couple glasses, some of their favorite treats (chocolate, nuts, etc.), candles (and a book of matches to light them with ... if you could get a book of matches from the place they had their wedding reception, or from where they met if applicable, would be pretty cool). Add something that works with what they like to do together ... tickets to a romantic movie, or an appropriate book they could read together. Be creative and have fun!
