My beautiful sister will be turning 50 in January and I will hosting a party in her honor. I would like some ideas for party themes. She will be 50 but looks much younger, she's beautiful and I could not have asked for a better sister if I had special ordered her from God himself.

What can I do next?

50th birthday bash. Find out what items were popular in the year she was born. Too bad you could not locate a couple of newspapers/magazines of the year to have around the house. Everyone could dress like the year she was born... Food/music from the era... Photos blastered about of her at various ages... Call the radio station she listens to and have them announce her name on her birthday. Get 50 or more people to send her birthday cards; the object here is to have 50 cards. Good luck.

I will be 50 tomorrow...I don't drink, or socialize my life seems too hectic...always on the go with the kids activities and sports and errands for my family plus a full time job, never time for me so...selfishly I would want a quite moment other than a hugh party. So make sure this is something SHE would want...So I would suggest a day spa for pampering her. However IF she is very outgoing & a party person and has a lot of friends, then party on. Home settings are the best, because no special dressing up just comfy shopping type clothes & socializing.

My older sister turned 50 about a year and a half ago and she too is very special to me. One of her friends and my mother coordinated a special treat for her- they recruited 50 friends or people willing to provide 50 items for the 50 days prior to her birthday. They were small items- for instance I gave her 50 crayons for 50 colorful years, 50 nuts from one nut to another, 50 post-its so she wouldn't forget anything, etc. This was really fun and she looked forward to her "daily" gift. Good luck on a birthday theme.

In contrast to the black themed Over the Hill party, I suggest 50 Years Young party using her favorite colors. Friends/family could write favorite memories on cards for her to keep after sharing them at the party.

'grease' is the word. A dress up 50's party is so much fun. Better yet... What was her favorite show or movie growing up? Build your theme around flash backs.

I'm unsure what type of party you are looking for.

A very nice elegant sit down dinner at Del Frisco's, III Forks or some other high end restaurant would be fun.

A couple of years ago we went to a birthday party at Ringside - Sullivan's. The entire Ringside was rented for a specific time for the private party. They had music, lots of appetizers, drinks and socializing. It was fun to dress up in some semi formal attire.

After the party, a lot of us moved on to some other places to keep the party going a little longer and had a great date night.

Enjoy!

I always wanted a 50's party for my mom when she turned 50. I wanted it like a sock-hop with all of her friends, a dj, and a gym. lol I know she would have loved it and the kids would have a great time, learning to dance like they did in the 50's. :) Ahh...those were the days...*sigh*. lol

One thing my sister-in-law did for my 40th bday was create a Trivia game from the years in my life, it was fun for the whole family, too. There were questions about each decade starting from the year I was born to current, so naturally, the grandparents remembered who was president, what movies were popular and pretty much everyone could participate in the music trivia. By the time we entered my teen years(the lovely 80's) everyone was laughing and singing, it was hilarious! She even dug out some fashion choices that were modeled by my kids and thier cousins! It was a huge hit! Good luck and send your sister Happy Bday blessings from the mama's at mamasource.

Why not do a 50s theme. We did this for my moom when she turned fifty and it was a blast. We had everyone come in poodle skirts and jeans and we had 50s music planning and decorations. Since it was a surprise for my mom, we had a poodle skirt and outfit for her to change in to when she got there. We served ice cream sundaes and hamburgers.

You are such a sweet sister, I wish my sister was as thoughtful as you =)

I think a really neat place would be the NYLO hotel in Plano. I always tease my husband about how neat it would be to have a party there. They have a pool outside with a fireplace that runs the entire length of the pool (obviously to cold to swim in Jan. but it is beautiful). They also have really neat lounging furniture outside that would make for a great cocktail party. You could have dinner in the restaurant over looking all of that, and the cocktails outside (hopefully it wouldn't be to cold). http://www.nylohotels.com/plano/

Buca di Beppo is always really neat for a big family style dinner. The Magic Time Machine in Addison, Fondue, or maybe Reunion Tower.

Good luck, and your sister is very lucky to have you as a sister.

I worked at a bakery once and I heard about " golden birthdays" which are actually the same birthday in which the date matches the year they are old, and everything is gold, the cake, the decorations etc. , I know she is past her "golden birthday" but it is a nice idea to show how priceless she is to you and everyone around you. I thought it was a cute idea. I am going to do it for my daughters 12th birthday.

Hi V.,

My name is S. and my husband and I own a DJ service. We just did a 50th birthday party last month and it was a lot of fun. It was at a small room in a hotel that only sat about 70 people instead of the great huge ballrooms. His cake was a picture cake of his military picture. We had a really good time. It was at the Westin in Frisco. We would love to work with you on a special song list for your sister and another great idea is to take pictures and you can scan them at any CVS and put music to them and make a DVD. Maybe the hotel has a projector and pop up screen. We would love to be a part of your sister's special birthday. If you would like more information please email us at ____@____.com and you can also view pictures and testimony on our website which is www.1stclassdjservice.net Whether you decide to use us or not I really hope that God gives you the perfect solution for your sister's special day. Birthdays are so incredibly important for we may not see another one for ourselves or the ones we love. Be grateful for every year of life.

I think it's fun to have a 50's theme - malt shop, poodle skirts, jeans with white tees, and loafers. Music would of course be from the 1950's. It'd also be neat to have a car from the 50's parked in front of the venue where the celebration is to be held.
