Hi Moms, I feel so bad for my daughter. She just started kindergarten and she has had numerous colds for the past 8 weeks. I know it is a cold and not allergies, because her symptoms, mostly nasal congession, is almost gone, like the cold is almost over and then she will come down with severe nasal congession. She was tested for allergies when she was 3 and was neg. for everything. We do the handwashing and I bathe her every day. We eat healthy with oranics and a lot of fruit and vegetables. We were taking vitamins and probiotics and just got off schedule. She has been enjoying her Halloween candy.. Are there moms that are giving their kids supplements that they believe significantly boasts their immune system, or anything else that you are doing that you recommend. She had the typical number of cold in her toddler and preschool years and is otherwise healthy girl.

What can I do next?

Tons of probiotics, vitamin C, Vitamin D, Zinc
Elderberry syrup
Garlic - lots of it
Green smoothies and coconut oil
Healthy protein
No sugar (including fruit), no wheat, no dairy
Bone broths
Might think about seeing a chiropractor, she may need a gentle adjustment that could help clear her congestion.
Good luck!

Allergies can pop up at any time.
So an allergy test she had at 3 doesn't mean anything now that she's 5.
It would be worth it to have her re-tested.
She's old enough to use a neti pot - rinse out her nose with warm saline every day.
Has she had any trouble with tonsils/adenoids?
This is a common age for those problems to turn up.

My otherwise healthy daughter missed 38 days of 3rd grade. She was diagnosed with chronic sinusitis, she had an 11 day stomach virus got over that then had 4 more stomach viruses over a 3 month period of time that lasted between 2 to 5 days. Then in August she was diagnosed with pertussis (whooping cough). Knock on wood but she has been great this school year.
We did find out that she was slightly immune compromised so they gave her another dose of the pneumococcal vaccine but her doctor was not sure that would actually help her or not.
I can certainly sympathize with you. Sounds like you are doing all the right things.

why not try allergy meds? they work for treating cold symptoms too. my daughter has the same exact description you say and it turns out she has fall allergies. the meds are over the counter and take 1-2 weeks to work. it cant hurt. why not try them. my daughter had allergy tests too but they dont test for everything.

also welcome to the world of school where colds are constant.

Absolutely there is more you can do - you just aren't giving her the right vitamins. There's just not enough in the foods you are giving her, even though they are organic. The soils are depleted, and the regulations aren't strong enough to protect organic food after it's picked. Friends of mine had a little boy a lot like your daughter but he was younger. There is some kids nutrition developed by a renowned pediatric nutrition expert (developed some of the first formulas which have high standards). PM me and we can discuss. My family is on the adult version - haven't been sick in 5 years, allergy symptoms gone, lab results vastly improved, much more. My doctor and my husband's doctor are thrilled.

Immune system support is so important - she just can't fight things off and keeps getting the next virus she's exposed to. And the AMA recommended 10 years ago that every adult and child must supplement even if they eat organically and locally.

Kindergarten was rough for my son. He was ill with one thing after another from october through april!
This year, so far so good. (Knocking on wood...) One thing that was different in K vs pre-school was that there was nobody making sure he washed his hands throughout the day - and he admitted to me that he didn't.

Welcome to kindergarten!!!

Expect to be sick for at last 1/2 of the year, if not the whole year.
1st grade is better. But not by a lot.
It's only in 2nd & 3rd that all the local microbes have been sorted. The first 2 years of public school are a cesspit. Almost literally.
K, 1st, & 2nd didn't used to have Attendence policies (k was optional, so schools wanted to make sure kids had 2 solid years of unlimited sick leave) to help cops with kids being out at least 1 week a month, and more often 2 weeks (unless they're the patient 0 kid dropped off no matter how sick they are).

Believe it or not, preschool probably did help. But now imagine how many preschools are in you elementary school. My son's K class had 20 preschools germs "in" it. And 25-50 workplaces (1 or both parents), and ALL the kids at lunch & recess & bathrooms. And siblings at other schools bring ALL the germs from middle & highschools they attend.

CessPit.

That takes about 2 years to immunize against

how could she be tested for everything... there are hundreds of types of grasses. anyways.
welcome to having your child in school! sounds like she has allergies not a cold. plus schools are dirty your child will always have some viral thing going on. what i would suggest is nasal rinses (2 times a day till you see marked improvement) then once a day till its no longer needed. followed with a 1/2 tspn of childrens benadryl.
my 5 year old has been doing nasal rinses since the age of 3 to help with her allergies.

I know allergies and sinus can do this so I would take her to a good allergist again now that she's older and maybe have them check the immune system and she may need the pneumococcal vaccine. Here is a link to it.

Our twin grandsons were getting sick all the time and having fevers and that caused febrile seizures and after that shot they have been well for two years. No fevers or anything. They had like colds and sinus, etc. Check it out with an allergist or doctor.

I would cut back on dairy in her diet, since that causes more mucus (no matter what the "studies" show). Have her drink lots of good water.

We like Emergen-c for a supplement. Vitamin C will really help her fight off the colds.

We also use Lauricidin. You'd have to get it from your natural health care provider or chiro.

She may have allergies. You could get her tested again. Things change.

Hope she gets better soon! It looks like you're doing the right things.

Look into giving her colostrum and glutathione supplements- those will help give her immune system a boost. Definitely keep giving the probiotics- sounds like you are on the right track and are doing the right things to support her immune system. Don't forget she needs LOTS of fats- grassfed butter, coconut oil, animal fats from pastured animals.... look into the Weston A Price Foundation (WAPF) diet, Nourishing Traditions book by Sally Fallon, and possibly the GAPS diet if she continues to stay sick (or get worse.)

Allergy testing (especially in children) is pretty unreliable- there are SO many toxic things in our environment, not to mention the natural ones we can react to. I wouldn't start pumping the Claritin or anything in her, as those can create their own problems. Try to let her immune system work it out.

I would do baths no more than every other day, since they can be really drying. Try washing her pillowcase more often, or even changing it every day for awhile. Same with toothbrush- sanitize it with peroxide and change it weekly for awhile to see if that helps.

It's strep season right now, so do watch her cues about strep. Most people don't realize how serious it can be, or how many systems in your body it can affect. If she starts complaining of leg pain or gets an unexplained tummy ache (particularly at night), OCD symptoms, or tics/twitches (repetitive eye blinking, sniffing.... they can be small at first!), then definitely have her swabbed for strep. You can do a rapid and 72 hour for the "gold standard." This is near and dear to my heart, as my daughter developed PANDAS (an autoimmune disease because of strep), now called PANS sometimes.

I have a food blog here about autoimmune health and recipes, if you'd like to take a peek: www.chickiepea.wordpress.com

Hope she feels better soon!
