Hi,

My daughter is in karate. She is 6 years old. She started about 6 months ago. She absolutely loves it. It is through the boys and girls club and only an hour a week. But she has a uniform and something to look foward to other than just school. It is very basic and progresses as their belts progress so its not like they are sparring right off the bat or anything.

Hope this helps.

I think Karate is great for boys as it teaches them disapline etc .. and boys naturally fight with each other so why not get them to do it with knowing they shouldnt harm others etc ..

just wished the cost was so high in this area - I nearly died when I looked to see how much it was for a 4 year old. Where they get the prices for these lessons I will never know !!!

As a former instructor, it is an excellent idea! Kids love it and it teaches them respect and delayed gratification(as in, it takes awhile to learn and be good at so you learn how to apply yourself to something for the long run) The key is to find a great school w/ an excellent kid program. I'm sorry that I don't know any in Aurora. As long as he is in a good program he will not be aggressive or any of the negative stuff that is linked to martial arts. My son is 2 and he is already learning grappling and boxing. He is a sweetheart, though sometimes he gently boxes the dog! ; )
Good luck

J., my step son started karate when he was 5, and he loves it. I do not think it is too early at all! Like the previous person said, it teaches discipline, which is so important (obviously!) and high self esteem! Good luck!

I have seen a lot of little boys take karate at that age! The only thing I have seen that could be a problem is they tend to like to try it on other little ones, but if you just reinforce that it is not okay to beat up on someone and that karate is just to defend yourself, then you should have no problem! I have also seem little girl in there at that age, although most little girls aren't as violent! Good Luck!
