Hi, I am 5 wks pregnant. i had a positive HPT and my quants have been rising appropriately. Last week my dr. saw a sac in the uterus. I am very nervous because i have had 3 previous ectopics in the past which were all treated with methotrexate. I was always told i would never get pregnant on my own unless i did IVF because my right tube is blocked. I have been cramping, no bleeding and sometimes get tightness in my pelvic area. Are all of these signs normal? My dr. says that she is sure this isnt an ectopic pregnancy however, there is still a chance that you can have a uterine pregnancy and ectopic at the same time. I am so nervous. Next week i am having another sono to confirm if there is a fetal pole. I need to find a way to calm down and keep thinking positive. any suggestions

I had cramping with my son. It was around the time I would have had my cycle, so yes it is normal or can be. I had a miscarriage the first time so I was very nervous with the cramping, but all worked out fine. My son is now 17 months old.

During both of my pregnancies I experienced some craming early on. Some of it is due to the prolactin which allows your muscles to stretch to make room for the baby in your pelvis. Also even before you start to show your uterus is expanding so that can also feel like cramps. If however you have any doubts call your doc. I will keep you in my thoughts. Good Luck.

Well most likely it is just your uterus growing. I would get cramps off and on as the uterus stretched and the baby grew. I've never heard of an ectopic pregnany and a uterine pregnancy at the same time. Just because a doctor thinks you wouldn't be able to get pregnant on your own does not mean mother nature listens to what they say. Just realize that the more you stress about it the worse it feels. a lot of it could be psychological. sometimes when a person expects the worse or lets their stress level rise it can bring about physical pains. so take a nice warm bath read a good book or whatever else you enjoy doing and have fun with those activities. distraction usually helps the best.

I believe that embryo implantation in the uterus produces cramping like that. Keep all of your appointments and ENJOY your pregnancy! I had two miscarriages before I had my son, so I know that feeling of impending doom. Try to relax!

Hi there - I have three children and felt similar cramping in the first trimester. With the first I kept running to the doctor because I was also afraid it might be ectopic with the cramping - everything was fine. The tightness and cramping are all normal - I am sure you will be able to relax more after the next sono. What a wonderful gift you have - enjoy the pregnancy and your baby!

Take care,

M. Ferguson

Yes, it can be normal. Both cramping and spotting are common in early pregnancy - nervewracking but common.

There is not much you can do but wait at this point! Good luck!

D.,
I agree with everyone here -- it sounds normal to me. I had an ectopic pregnancy before my successful pregnancy, and with my successful pregnancy I was surprised that throughout the first trimester I had cramping and round ligament pain. It basically felt like I had my period, but without any bleeding. So hang in there. The fact that the doctor saw the sac in your uterus is awesome. It sounds like you are on your way and experiencing a normal pregnancy.
Try to take it easy and good luck,
A.

Hi D.:

I understand your concern. Continue to check in with your doctor. On your own, you can visualize a healthy womb with your healthy baby growing inside. Do this daily. In addition, I suggest that you incorporate natural therapy options into your healthcare protocol during your pregnancy and beyond. Options such as Aromatherapy, Herbal Care and Flower Essences can assist your womb and overall health.

Let me know if my office can assist you with any of the natural wellness care.

All the best,
N.

Hi! Sounds completely normal! I'm 10 wks and have been having cramping and sharp pains for weeks! :-( like most have said, its mnost likely your ligaments stretching-making room for baby. Try to relax. Stress is no good. Keep us updated! Best of luck!
