4.5 Year Old Biting

Does anyone know a 4.5 year old who still bites when he gets frustrated? We are having our son evaluated, but I'm curious if there are others out there who have dealt with a child with this type of behavior? When he's frustrated, he kicks the dog, hits his siblings, bites, etc. It's incredibly frustrating for my husband and I. I know it's very hard for my son too because he has such a short fuse. Any helpful suggestions or support is appreciated.

My daughter did until right around that age. We worked hard together to replace the behavior with others. She picked pinching. I told her that wasn't acceptable, so I taught her to clap,or stomp her feet.

I find 4.5-5 year olds to be very aggressive. They are all about fairness, so the lash out a lot.

I have a zero tolerance policy for anti-social behavior, so if she lashes out, we head home, she goes to her room, etc.

Glad you're having him evaluated. He's too old for this. He has a real anger management problem that needs to be handled. What will be really important is you learning how to handle this. Work with the professionals to figure out what to do with him each and every time.

I wish you much luck in handling this.

What has his discipline been for this?

While my DD no longer bites (she did as a toddler), she still has moments where she just flies off the handle and we have to remind her to calm down, use her words and not get so upset about things. I would be concerned that a nearly-5 yr old is still biting as a response to frustration. Hitting and kicking is not OK, either, but that's more what I would expect.
