I was wondering if there are any other Mom's out there that went through this same thing? My 4 and a half month old was sleeping from 8pm until 6am consistently and has slowly gotten worse. It started with him getting up around 1:40am and then sleeping until 6am and now he is getting up every 3 hours again and has been doing this for about a week now. His temperature is normal so he doesn't seem to be sick and when i change his diaper in the middle of the night he's babbling away and smiling so he doesn't seem to be hurting at all. Does anyone know if this is just a phase and will get better? He is eating 6oz. everytime he gets up so maybe it's a hunger thing? He is a big boy, he's in the 95th percentile for weight and 97th for height. Thanks for your responses!!

I agree with those that say it's a growth spurt. My little guy wanted to nurse constantly around this age. I started him on rice cereal at around 5 or 5 1/2 months, and that helped a ton.

what i did was giving him like baby food- del monte nature's goodness in the jar and making sure that he doesn't go to sleep until you are ready which could be around 9 or so that why he will sleep all not and be full

My son did the same thing around that age. It is probably a growth spurt. It lasted about 10 days with my son. He got back on schedule shortly after that. It is rough I know...you just get used to him sleeping through the night and then all of a sudden he doesn't! My son is currently going through it again at 9 months.

Hi Rebekah,

My daughter was sleeping through the night at 5 wks and then went through this phase at 6mo as well. She was waking every 3 hours and it was putting me in the loony bin! It lasted a few months for us. We introduced her to a big bowl of cereal before going to bed instead of nursing hoping that this would tide her over but it didn't work either. Unfortunately, I don't have any words of wisdom to give you just wanted to let you know we also struggled with it. I hope your sons adjusts quickly.

My guess is that it's a growth spurt or just a change in sleeping pattern. My daughter did that a few times when she was younger too (actually, her sleep pattern for naps and at night change every few months). I would not recommend feeding him if you can help it. My daughter started sleeping through the night at 5 weeks old and when she started waking up again, her doctor said to let her try to put herself back to sleep and not go in unless I had to. When I did go in, it was just to check on her and change her diaper (only if poopy or extremely wet) in very dim light and then put her right back down. If it's a growth spurt and he is hungry, you should try to load him up in the afternoons/evenings before bed to try to get him through the night. This is the advice my pedi gave me and I can tell you that we have never really had any sleep issues with my daughter. We just had to remind her a few times that the middle of the night is not playtime. She learned to go back to sleep on her own and even now when she wakes up (she is 14 months), she will play for awhile in her crib before she's ready to get up. Good luck. I know how hard it is to get no sleep after you have gotten used to sleeping at night again.
