I am looking for some ideas on what to get my husband for his 40th birthday, and on a budget! I dont want to get the same ole things, clothes, cologne, music, tools...something different! But I am at a lost especially cause it really has to be on a budget and its a special birthday (40). I am planning on doing the hotel thing and downtown, so if we wanted to go somewhere we would be close, so I dont think a big gift would be necessary....PLEASE HELP, cause I do want it to be special since it is his 40th!!!!

What can I do next?

Good morning, J.,
Since you are a "big movie person", why not get him his own subscription to Netflix, so he can choose his favorites? You could even make a movie "gift basket" with the subscription, a package of microwave popcorn, some instant cocoa or his favorite beverage. Be creative! You know his tastes better than anyone. Just a little fun suggestion....
Hints of many "snuggling" evenings for winter nights....
You don't have to spend a lot of money to have a good time.

If he's a beer drinker, World Beer Company makes some fun gift baskets. http://www.worldbeercompany.com/home.htm

And I just read the idea below. Yes, boudoir shots of yourself would be fun! I did this for my hubby for our 10th anniversary on Friday! http://krpboudoir.blogspot.com/

Long ago I went to a Bridal shower and someone gave the bride a gift - matching pjs for her and her groom for the wedding night: two velvet chokers, one with lace and beads for her, and a bow tie for him.

We had a good laugh over that. Maybe you could adapt this idea? Buy a sexy nightie for you and make a matching one for him along the above lines?

If you don't already subscribe to Netflix, it's great. The idea about giving him a Netflix sub with accompanying basket of goodies was a good one.

I think the hotel idea is a great one. Wrap yourself up!!

I'm sure he would enjoy some private time with you.

Get some snapshots of yourself for him.

I agree with T.F. and Sarah - get a babysitter, go to a hotel, wear a skimpy nighty and enjoy not only each other but, some much needed quiet time and sleep.

Dear J.,
I don't know what your budget is, but I can share with you that in my experience a fun gift that my customers have done is a Men's Kit that I carry with Mary Kay. It is a shaving bag with a cleansing bar, shave foam, after-gel, and a moisturizer with spf 25. They have found that at age 40 the men do truly care what they look like so some extent but they want their routine to stay simple and easy. I can teach you how the steps are made easy and his skin feels and smells great, not to mention he is helping slow down the aging process.
The kit is $64.95 and it never has to be refilled all at once, and each item last a long time because in Mary Kay "a little dab will do ya"

It is all 100% Satisfaction guaranteed so you never have a drawer full products you can't use.

If I can help, great but you know your husband the best.
Way to go planning ahead to make his 40th special.
Keep up the great work,
R.

It sounds like since you have a 2 year old that probably all he wants for his birthday is quality time with you! So, the hotel is a good idea;) What about giving him 40 coupons from you, for things like "a kiss", "a night with the guys", "date night", "a back rub", "get out of kid duty for a day", "no chores for a day", etc. ... you get the idea! I think since you have to come up with 40, it is okay to have duplicates of his favorites! You could present them to him at the hotel and suggest one he use right away!! Have fun!

Hi J.,

When my husband turned 40 I made him a scrap book / photo album. It took a while to get everything together but I started with pictures of us dating, on vacation etc; then a couple of wedding pics; then family gatherings; then pics of him with our kids at different stages and finally recent pics of us all together. I also had my son and daughter write him letters and decorate the pages that had their pictures on them (I see your son is young so you could get him to say things and you can write it down, that's always fun to see!). I am not really creative but it came out really well and he loved it! It was a good review of his life! It was very inexpensive - just the money to buy the scrap book / photo album, and maybe acid free pens if you don't have them, everything else we had around the house. Have fun whatever you decide to do!
