4-Year-old's T-T Hurting at Night Only

My daughter's "T-T" hurts her occasionally at night (and she comes in to my room crying.) I generally put her in the tub, clean her and put vaginal itch/burn cream on her. She falls asleep after that fine and is always fine in the morning and next day. I am resisting taking her to the doctor as #1 I don't want her to be on any more antibiotics and #2 It's not every night and never during the day. She is only slightly red on her outer lips at the time, no other symptoms. I ask her if it burns when she pees and she says no.

Any ideas on what this could be and what I can do to battle this on my own holistically?

Thank you so much!

What can I do next?

Sounds like it could be a yeast infection. This happened to my friend's daughter when she was 3 and taking antibiotics for an ear infection. She said the symptoms were always worse at night.

Yes, it sounds like a yeast infection, but a doctors diagnosis would be best. My daughter got a couple after taking antibiatics, my doctor recommended buying the over the counter Monostat and just rubbing the cream on the infected area, it cleared up in a couple of days. I've also heard (possible myth?) that putting yogurt with live cultures there will do the same thing. Hope that helps you.

I had the same problem when I was little. My mom only let me use ivory soap or aveeno because it's natural, I couldn't wash my hair in the tub, only shower. I had to use only cotton underwear, I could only drink caffeine free drinks and no bubble bath. I also was taken to a urologist who did a test on me to make sure that I didn't have urinary reflux. I didn't. I now have Interstitial Cystitis, which never goes away. I think that I had it when I was younger too because I would have burning after I peed not as I was peeing, so it wasn't an infection. My mom would just put desitin on it and wash it with cold water. Try pouring a cup of water "on it" after she pees to make sure it gets all washed out. My family has always had alot of bladder issues, so I know all the tricks. I hope she gets over it soon, it definitely could be because she's not getting clean enough but could be something else too. Take care.

I don't think it is a yeast infection because it would hurt all the time not just at night. I would probably stop putting vaginal cream on her she is to young. Just use diaper rash medication. My daughter is 3 and when she is playing outside for long periods of time tells me her pee hurts as well. I think it is from sweating and so now I willl put a little baby powder on her and it seems to help. You also need to make sure she is drying herself really well after she pees because if not that can cause diaper rash like symptoms.

This happens to our 5 yr. old sometimes-it is usually because she hasnt wiped well. I usually wipe her down with plain water and then put diaper rash cream or vaseline-better by morning. HTH.

i would make sure she is wiping really well, & also that she is not sometimes peeing a little in her undies & then keeping the same ones on. (sometimes my daughter wont wipe well enough & then she gets irritated down there) does she get a bath every night? if not then maybe she should just to make sure she stays clean.
