i am SO not creative, argh! my sweetness will be (gasp!) 3 in december. funds are limited of course. last year i held the party as a playdate kinda, justa few friends & their couple kiddos. i live in a mobile home park so i just rented out their little clubhouse area. i made the cake, baked breakfast casserole for food, they had room to play & he unwrapped presents. it went good! it was perfect for our family & my budget.
but this year all the babies are now almost 2, almost 3 and almost 4 so i was thinking they may need more room to run around. i can't afford chucky cheese. his bday's the first of dec so weather will PROBABLY be good, but who knows?! lol
anyway, can anyone help me out w/some ideas, just for an inexpensive venue.

Why not do ____@____.com park? It usually doesn't cost much to rent out a covered area for eating and that way the kids could have plenty of room to play. If you don't think outside would work perhaps you could look into a bounce house play area?
When our first child was 3 we took him and a group of his little friends to the firestation for a tour. The kids and their parents met us there at the appointed time. The firemen gave the kids a great tour, let them sit in teh fire trucks, and gave a demonstration of putting on all the fire gear. They do educational outreach and were more than happy to do this. They want to teach young kids not to be afraid of the firemen. Then we all went back to our house for cake. It was a neat thing to do and it was totally free. You have to talk to the firestation a head of time and set it up. Our daughter is 2 now and she just LOVES fire trucks, so I think this is a great idea for a girl or a boy.
I would think a park would be ideal, if the weather is good, and the kids can all play on the playground equipment. Here we can reserve a covered area in the park at no charge.
Bake your cake or cupcakes, do the party around 10 and they will have already eaten, or do a potluck, ask the parents each to bring one of their child's favorite dishes.
We did mostly a playdate, too. Just included a small map and treasure hunt where the kids found their goodie bags at the end. Less is more at this age. I'd do the same thing, personally. Give them toys to play with and let them have at it for a while, then do cake, presents and goodie bags. Maybe a craft (oriental trading).

My son turned 3 last December, so we had a paint your own pottery at a local pottery place. It was really great! Each kid painted a tile (to put in your kitchen to set hot dishes on). We had about 6 kids there and the whole party was only about $65. We did bring in Subway sandwiches and a cake too, but you could have the party mid-morning or afternoon to avoid having to serve more than cake.

1. The Don Rodenbaugh Natatorium in Allen is AWESOME for birthday parties!!! It's perfect for December too since it is indoors with a mini lazy river and water slides. I think it cost around $5 per child to go and if you want to rent the party room...it's only like $20/per hour. I would suggest going there and taking a tour. Or you can also Google it (Google Images)and view some pics of it since they don't have many photos on their website.
2. The Indoor Safari Park is also good for bithday parties for that age. There is one in Plano and I think one in Frisco or Dallas too. They have a mini train and robotic animals for the kids to ride on. There is also mini golf and lots of bounce houses. The price is reasonable too...around $7 per child to get in and not much to rent the party room.

3. We once used the outdoor Pole Barn pavilion at Meyers Park for the venue of a surpirse party. It's a really pretty setting, right beside a lake with a bridge. The outdoor pavilion has restrooms, a stage area, and about 10 picnic tables....so lots of room! The best part is that it only cost $20 to sent it for 4 hours!!! However, there is a $75 deposit that you will get back via mail once the event is over. You could always do his party there (weather permitting) and even do an early gift exchange at his party. Just a thought.

For my son's birthday we took his two friends and thier familys to the zoo. We had a great time.we came back to my MIL 's(we live in a condo) and had pizza and swam in the pool.
Next year I think we will do a camp out or camping weekend with the kids. My son has 2 friends from daycare that he plays with outside of school. They will always be a part of his birthdays.

Make it an interactive party. Such as Wreath Making bday parry, holiday trees, Build a snowman bday bash, or whatever you are comfortable with. Keep it short....hour and a half maybe two. This way you entertain the kids on your budget. Icecream cones covered on green frosting with jelly beans oe sprinkles, Marshmellows foe snowmen building, or play dough for anything party and they keep the playdough. Hope this helps. Good luck!
