Hi M.. I just had my little boys 6 month check-up. He has dry skin on his face (from drooling) and some other mild areas. My doctor told me to use the Baby Eucerine Aquaphor, for these areas- and even recommended a wash by the same name so as not to create more dry skin from the baths (fond the wash at CVS). He also has two little patches of eczema that my doc instructed me to keep Cortizone on. Good luck!

Hi M.,

Growing up with eczema, I can relate!

SIMPLE SOLUTION: Change your laundry detergent! Storebrand are all toxic (including Dreft). You can use something like "7th Generation." However, I prefer "MelaPower" from Melaleuca - The Wellness Company, which is a Ph-balanced, non-toxic, environmentally friendly detergent. It's fabuous! I've had a number of my clients rid their family of eczema, asthma, allergies, and migraines, simply by switching to healthier, safer home care products. It's amazing!!!

I also use an intensive skin therapy called "Renew", which is fabulous for healing eczema and dry skin.

Feel free to call my office for more info: ###-###-####

Hi M.,

My daughter needed a pediatric dermatologist when she was a little less than a year old and we went to Dr. Rosemary Geary who is also my dermatologist. We both really liked her and would recommend her to anyone. She is located on Dobson across from Chandler Regional Hospital and the office number is ###-###-####.

I had watched a child with severe eczema ( she would scratch till she bled) She was highly allergic to many foods and that was a big cause of it. So if your baby hasnt been food allergy tested you may want to look into it. I havent seen them in a while but I will try and find their number and get the dr they used. I feel your pain, we were very attached to that little girl and it broke my heart to see her like that.

Where are her main trouble spots? around her face? arms? legs? Depending where they are, different things can be contributing to the problem. My son is 9 mos now, and has had it severely also-mainly around the face becuase of agressive teething and constant drool-i just use 100% pure petroleum with no fragrence or dye. "Bag Balm" is also very good. You could also try aloe vera, with no fragrance or dye. That is the key--stay away from fragrances or dyes (especially in the shampoos and bath soaps you use to bathe her with--and be carefull--even products that claim to be "nature friendly" like "Aveeno", have fragrances). Also, you can use grape seed oil right from the baking aisle at the grocery store. You can use it to bathe her and it soothes the skin. Also, running a humidifier to moisten the air works wonders. Good Luck!

Hi M.,
My son has suffered with eczema as well. He is now 2 and half but has had flare ups for quite some time on and off. We went to a dermatologist in Chandler named Elizabeth Jacobsen. She is right near the Chandler Hospital. She gave us two creams to use. One is Elidel which since she prescribed it, there has been evidence that it can cause cancer so we no longer use it. We also have one called Cutivate which has a small dose of a steroid in it. This one we only use on major flare ups and never on my son's face. But the thing we have found works the best is only using soap on private areas, feet, hands and hair. Otherwise when my son gets a bath, we just wash him with the bath water and a wash cloth. Children's soap causes a lot of dryness and that is the key with eczema...keep the skin moist. We use Lubriderm every night after has a bath for lotion. They say if kids have it young, more than likely they will outgrow it so keep that in mind. Hope this helps. Good luck.

My son is 2 and has eczema on his arms and legs only. We go the Stockton Dermatolgy in Awatukee. We have tried many creams and found that Cloderm (prescrit), Salex lotion (prescript), and we use Vani-cream soap bars and lotion. I get the Vani-cream at the pharmacy but it is not prescription. It seems to have gotten a little better over the last few months. He twin bother has the same thing but on his checks now too.

Good luck!

Hi M.,
All 3 of my kids suffer from eczema, 2, 5, and 11. The one product we have found to be most effective is Cortaid anti-ich lotion. just over the counter. i put this on them after they take a bath or when they seem to be itchy. As the day goes on I rub them down with a Shea butter. Bath and body works body butter. It seem to control it. We have tried prescription lotions etc... but this seem to help us.
Best of luck!!

Good Morning M. -

Without knowing where your beliefs lie, I would like to share some information about eczema on a holistic level. Eczema is a skin disorder that has its roots in antagonism. If there is alot of fighting or upset around your daughter - and because of her age, she can not voice her frustration with it all - eczema is the result. The use of Flower Essence therapies to balance the emotions is helpful (Bach Flower Rescue Remedy - for 1). You can also use herbal salves, which you can made yourself or buy at a local herb store, that contain any of, or a combination of, the following herbs - Comfrey, Echinacea, Oregan Grape Root, Burdock, Calendula or White Willow. To make an herbal salve you need: 1 cup almond oil, 1/6 to 1/4 cup grated beeswax, and 1/4 cup coursely ground herbs. There are 2 methods of combining these ingredients. The 1 day method is to mix the herbs and oil together in a small saucepan - make sure the oil covers the herbs - and warm on very low temp for 30 to 60 minutes, stirring occasionally. Keep a close watch - the oil has a tendency to burn. Remove from heat, pour through a fine straining cloth into a 2nd pan and squeeze as much oil out of the cloth as possible. Return the oil to low heat and slowly add the beeswax, stirring until melted. Pour into clean, glass jars. Let cool until hard. Once completely cool, put on the lid and label the jar. This salve can be used on any dry skin condition, including insect bites. Do not use on oozing skin. The 2nd way is to fill a small, glass jar with as many herbs as you can stuff into it. Cover the herbs with the oil and put the lid on the jar. Shake well. Place the jar in the sun or in a warm area for 14 to 21 days - shaking daily. At the end of the time, strain the oil through a fine cloth into a small pan. Squeeze as much oil out of the herbs as possible. Heat slowly, adding beeswax and stirring until melted. Pour into clean, glass jars and allow to cool. Do not put the lid on until the salve has hardened and is completely cool.

Dear M. --

The first thing you need to do is to change your laundry soap, so that it is not left in the baby's clothes. There is not a commercial laundry soap on the market that can effectively do this. Then change what you wash the baby's skin with and then there is a cream. This is a green company that sells these special products that work for this kind of condition and I assure you that they do work. The products are inexpensive and you will be blown away at their effectiveness. I have seen eczema, dermatitis and even psoriasis be cleared using these products. You can contact me at my local number ###-###-#### or email me at ____@____.com and I can answer any and all questions that you might have. M.

Hi M.,
I have a son with eczema, he is now 4, but has had it since he was 6 weeks old. The best thing, was switching all our products over to non dye, non perfume. I struggled with a good cream. If you go over the counter try Eucerin or Vanicream. We still had some bad bouts of eczema with those products. I found a company that I now purchase all my cleaning supplies, laundry detergents and lotions from. The reason why I made a complete switch was because their products are safe for my kids and my home environment. It has made such a change in my son's skin and health b/c he also has asthma and allergies. If you would like the company's website, let me know. Good luck!

Hi both of my boys and my husband have eczema and the creams and lotions we have used and seemed to help are Cetaphil or Eucerin. I found when the eczema is really bad that if you use the Cetaphil wash for bathtime and then use the Cetaphil lotion that helps a bunch too. When and if you get it to calm down a good maintenence lotion is the Aveeno lotion. I hope this helps.
