3 Yr Old Going into Social Scene for the First Time

My daughter will be 3 April 3. She is extremely smart and plays well with her cousins and other children of friends of ours when they visit or we go over to play cards or wahtever. My daughter has not actually been exposed to a routine in a social enviornment. I know she needs it, like last year, but I could not bring myself to put her a day care setting. Now that she is about to turn 3 I am doing some research on a few local preschools in the Bartlett area that are good, but aren't going to cost us an arm and a leg.
I have received a few suggestions from a neighbor. He actually suggested Grace Presbyterian. He said both of his girls went there and loved it.
I need more than one persons opinion though. Any thoughts, suggestions, ideas...anything will be a great help and very much appreciated.

Thanks,
A.

So What Happened?

Okay, so after considering and researching all of the suggestion from friends, neighbors, family, and from the mommy's here on MamaSource, I have made a decision. Grace Presbyterian in Bartlett has a nice affordable Mother's Day out. It is close to my home and I like the teachers who will be interacting with my daughter. I have reviewed the church class room and I like the set up. My daughter will be going 2 days a week. I am so excited and I just know that my daughter is going to absolutley love the interaction with children her age. She needs that SO bad. Her daddy and I need it just as bad. Keeping her out of a social enviornment is holding her back and she is starting to lash out because she is so bored. The social outlet and the education will be good for all of us. IF anyone else is in the same predicament please visit Grace Prebyterians web site. It is a small but homly church and everyone I have talked to ther ehas been very kind. Thank you to everyone here at MamaSource who has responded with support and advise. Have a fabulous Easter weekend everyone. http://www.grace-pres.org/
I hope this will help anyone else who might be looking for a nice program to start there little toddler in.

I don't know anything about Grace Presbyterian's program, I'm sure it is great as I have heard good things about the church. I attend Central Church on Winchester in Collierville. They too offer a preschool program that many have said is wonderful. You can go to www.centralchurch.com, click on schools, then learning center and find the information there.

Good luck in finding something that suits you both!

Hello. I felt the same as you when I put my 3 yr. old in preschool for the first time. He goes to Advent Presbyterian on Germantown Pkwy. We love it. A few of my neighbors children also go to Advent. The directors name is Susan Willmont and she is absolutely wonderful. She knows every child by name. And she stands at the door every morning and greets you as you come in. I have not had one problem. My son had never been away from me before he started school. Now he cries when I go to pick him up. He wants to stay. He always talks about his teachers and his friends. And the classes are small. There are 10 children in my sons class and 2 teachers. He goes 2 days a week now, 9:30 - 2:30. But he loves it so much that I have registered him for 3 days a week in the fall. I hope this helps. Good luck!!

I just enrolled my daughter at Grace, but she is in 1st grade so I have no experience with the preschool. My daughter really likes it and all of the teachers seem very very nice.

Hi! I was in a similar boat about a month ago. We just moved here from East TN. Our daughter will be 4 in August. For the first time, I decided she needed to do something like this too. She is now is 2nd Pres, Mother's Day Out. I stay home with her, and it just seemed like she and I both needed a little change. She is LOVING going to her "school".

i am the mother of a 2 year old. i work for my husband in an office setting. when i first had my daughter i was definately going to be a stay at home mom! however my plan changed. our daughter stayed with her grandmother. however, i deceided it was in my daughter's best interest to be with other children. i started her in a mother's day out church program in germantown when she was 18 months. she absolutely LOVES being with the other children. i started 2 days a week and then went to three days a week. my experience has been so positive! children need to develop social skills. one piece of advice when choosing a place for me was being christian based and also how many children per adult were allowed in the room. there are 2 teachers and a maximum of 10 children in her class. if you do put your daughter in, don't be surprised if she cries or clings to you the first week or so. it's heart breaking however the joy of seeing her go in now and greet and hug her peers couldn't bring me any more joy!

God Bless
