I am writing about my 3 year old son zachary. He will only sleep when he is in the bed w/ me. He shares a room w/ his 1 year old sister who is an excellent sleeper. I also have a 4 year old who has her own room and is also a great sleeper. She use to always want to sleep w/ me until I got her tons of princess stuff for her room. Not she sleeps in her room every night. I have tried buying him big boy bedding (spiderman sheets, nightlights, ect) but nothing works. He says that he is scared but I don't think he is, he plays in him room w/ no problams. So my problem is that every night he starts in his bed but then alway comes into mine in the middle of the night. He is good at it too, I usually don't know when he comes in. My hubby says that if we put up a gate I can stop him in his tracks but I am the only one who gets up at night and this is killing me. Also when I put him back to bed he cries, screams really. The baby wakes up na then I have two screaming kids. I really don't mind him in my bed, actually I kind of like it. I am not having anymore children and I like having him snuggle w/ me. The big problem though... he is potty trained but sleeps in a diaper. When he wakes in the night, if he is wet he takes off his diaper w/ out me knowing. Then he creeps into my bed and will pee but now has no diaper! I wake up w/ a wet bed often. My husband gets very mad at him (he wants him out!) and tells him that it is naughty and calls him pee pee pant and other mean things. I know Zack can't help the accidents and hubby is making him feel worse. I do understand where dh is coming from but i am the one that steam cleans the bed and change the sheets. what do I do. How can I get Zack to stay in his bed and if he doesn't, how do I keep him dry in mine???

What can I do next?

try giving him a pullup at night, and leave a clean one for him to change into if he's wet.

I would maybe ask your pediatrician about the nighttime accidents and what to do. He definitely needs to stay in his own bed. I used to gate my son in his room (sometimes two gates on top of each other!). He hated it but got the message after a few nights. I'm sure you have seen the Nanny and that the getting up from bed is a common issue. You just have to keep getting up and putting him back in his bed. It's not going to be fun but if it works so be it. He will scream and scream but what else can you do? Talk to him about what you will be doing. Ask him what you can do so that he stays in his room and see what he says. The scared thing is defintely an excuse.

Hi K.,
First you husband shouldn't talk that way to your little boy.I have four boys and hey have all slept with us and our two year old still sleeps in our bed . He too pulls his pull-up off when he wets.Just tell Zack that if he wants to sleep in your bed he has to wear a diaper or pull-up otherwise he can't stay in your bed .In the mean time, you can get a water-proof mattress cover and as soon you realize he's in your bed put a diaper or pull-up on him.We all know this doesn't last forever and our kids will only be this young for a short period .We love having our kids sleep with us .Sometimes we've been six in our super queen bed. It's a cozy, loving feeling to have our boys cuddle with us . And keep in mind, when you and your husband experience one of those bad nights, someday you both might be wishing Zack was back cuddling with you both ! Good luck,
O.
