Can any one help? I have a 3 year old who is almost four and poops in is underwear. The problem is he knows how to use the bathroom. When he does this he will go and change is butt. I don't know how I get him to sit on the potty and poop there. Does anyone have any suggestions?

What can I do next?

My daughter was trained, and then regressed with the pooping for a bit. I made her clean herself AND her underpants. She did not like it at all! After the third time, she went back to doing it on the potty. Good luck!

I wish I had some advice for you but I am having the same problem! My little girl only poops when she is taking her afternoon nap at daycare. I want to send her in underpants like she wears at home, but I am afraid she will feel like she cannot go then. She got very badly constipated at one point from this so now it has become an issue. She pees on the potty but will not poop on the potty. She is three years old too!

This happened to me, I just took off my son's underwear (told him he would go without), bought new "special" spiderman underwear (his favorite) and told him that we could not get those all poopy, and just to let me know when he was ready to wear them. It took about two days and we have not had a problem since. Good luck! Don't stress!

My son also did the same thing was he was four! I was positive he knew how to go on the potty, he chose to go in his pants. I simply told him that he would not be allowed to watch his videos unless he pooped on the potty. I was serious, the first day he watched no videos. Day number two he went on the potty, and that was the end of him pooping in his pants!
Good luck!

My son took a while to start pooping in the potty after he was potty trained for pee pee. He had always had a problem with constipation, so I figured it had something to do with it hurting or something. So, I spoke to my pediatrician and did a lot of research on this and basically increased his fiber intake dramatically. If he won't eat the fiber, then I got him these gummy bear vitamins for fiber. I also put benefiber in his drinks and anything else we eat as a family. The doctor told me to do this, and he gave me a prescription for Miralax (he was holding it in so much he got encorpresis). I only used the Miralax twice when I knew he was holding it and it was really bad. But, the fiber definitely helped make it easier to go. Then, I started a reward system that if he went poops on the potty, he got a sucker. It was the only time he got a sucker, so it was a good incentive to go and keep going on the potty. If he went in his underwear, I cleaned him but made him get his new underwear. There were times when I knew he had to go and wouldn't so I sat him on the potty and we sat there until he went. It was a while, and it was heartbreaking, but I knew if he didn't go it would make his encopresis worse. So, it has been about a year now and we haven't had any pooping in the underwear. I still continue the fiber for myself and him, as when I take him off he seems to have issues again. Once they are afraid it will hurt, it takes a while to teach them it won't hurt. Plus, they often times won't tel you why they won't go, so it is all a guess. Good luck! Just try as many different rewards as possible.
