I'm thinking of going to the beach this weekend (wildwood, nj) but i have a 3 month old and not sure exactly how that will work. I do have a one step ahead baby tent that is spf 50. but then i wonder how long the baby will stand being put in that. We have to drive to the beach each day, and we will be in someone else's car so i won't be able to leave as i please. I have heard of baby milk sunscreen for babies, but where do you get it? Has anybody else gone to the beach with a little baby? Is this just too much and should i just forget it? I keep going back and forth. i'd be going with my 4 year old and 2 year old too...(but with my parents so two extra set of eyes, lol)

What can I do next?

With my kids I try to go in the late afternoon - 3pm or later. This way the sand isn't as hot to walk on. You would still need an umbrella for shade, but it would be more comfortable, and you wouldn't have to adjust the umbrella as much as the sun moved. You can also put baby in a light sleeper, that way only the face/arms would need sunblock. Also, don't forget to take a sun hat.

Is going to the beach with kids those ages doable? Yes. It is good that you have a 1-1 ratio.

I haven't heard of that type of sunscreen. Maybe as a pharmacist or your pediatrician for a recommendation?

Hey there.

I was at the beach with my daughter since she was four months old. We went solo and survived, so it seems that you are well stocked with your parents on board to pitch in,

It's unclear whether you are staying over or not.

Also, did you take your other kids to the beach as newborns?

Anyway, I slathered sunscreen on my baby and put a hat on. We took frequent walks to and from the boardwalk to catch some shade, and also let her experience the sand. We bought a bjorn and walked by the ocean as well.

I would keep him/her in the carseat and bring that on to the beach. I set my sleeping angel in a shady spot (a faux tree) and pitched our belongings there.

Again, I did this solo, so you should be fine!

not to be a debbie downer, but i wouldn't take the baby. depending on the temps and how strong the sun is, the baby could get super hot. i mean if you were only going for an hour or something, that would be fine but i wouldn't go all day. plus you're not supposed to put sunscreen on babies that young.

I went to the beach for a week the last week of my maternity leave. It was great and no problem. I didn't use a lot of sunscreen, I bought a long-sleeve sun shirt and a hat for him so all he needed was a little sunscreen on his face and legs (I used the coppertone baby). Target sells the infant sun shirts with long sleeves - in fact I just saw them yesterday in the Target by my house (the Target on McKnight in the North Hills). They are not with baby clothes, they are back with baby layette stuff.

We had a baby tent, but I was afraid it would get too hot, so mostly we sat under one of those big umbrellas in the shade, so the baby would get some air. My little one napped just fine on a towel on the beach and I was nursing so I always had food ready lol. It was a nice trip. Have fun!
