Hi again A.,

It's quite possible he has his nights confused with his days. That is very common with newborns. S.

Very, very normal. Most babies take at least a few months before they sleep in any kind of predictable way. It is very, very normal during those first few months for baby to wake every 3 or 4 hours to eat.

It's exhausting. That's why you keep hearing the advise to sleep whenever the baby sleeps.

swaddling him at night might help. he's used to being snug inside you, so swaddling can make a big difference! good luck!

You sleep when the baby sleeps.
Eventually his days and nights will switch around.
Until then, you get sleep when ever you can.
It's really common for babies to have days and nights reversed.
During the day when you're moving and walking around and pregnant - the movement helps the baby sleep.
At night when you're sleeping - the baby kicks up a storm - enough so that our son kicked Dad out of bed before he was born (our son loves that story!).
It can take awhile for him to sleep at night but he'll get there sooner or later.
Have patience and welcome to parenthood!

Frustrating but normal. Sounds like his days and nights are mixed up a bit.

My oldest had his days and nights mixed up for a few months. He was a great sleeper but it was so tiring having him awake and perky all night. Eventually, he got turned around and did fine. It is an exhausting time for sure, but it will get better. As for the crying in your other post, my youngest needed holding and swaddling all the time. He also had tummy issues, so I would definitely be in contact with the pediatrician to find out about his formula. Some babies have to try many types to get the right one.

He has his days and nights mixed up.

You have to work with him to help him stay awake more during the day. Lots of sound in the house - tv, music, lots of light, washing him, nursing or bottle feeding him on a schedule. Make sure he is full with his feedings - cool washcloths, undressing him a bit, etc, so that he doesn't fall asleep after just a little bit of eating...

At night time, it's quiet and dark. Eventually baby will figure it out.

Well, he's supposed to be sleeping a lot, about 20 hours a day I think. He should be waking up hungry every couple of hours and needing to eat every 2-3 hours. As he gets bigger he'll continue to need to eat every few hours but it will grow further apart.

If he's keeping you up at night then you need to sleep when he sleeps during the day. You will go nuts if you don't get some sleep. Ask a mother in law or mom to come stay with you a couple of days and have them watch the baby at night. Then you can get sleep and he'll get fed a bottle.
