I am starting to think about a 2nd Birthday party for my son, he will be two on August 28th. I'm looking for party ideas. My home is not very large, but I used my parents home last year for his first Birthday party. That is an option again this year, but I'm also open to going elsewhere. I just don't know where. My son LOVES water, so I was also thinking of renting one of those blow-up water slides. Has anyone done this before? Is it worth it? Too much for toddlers? Any ideas would be welcome as I am in the brainstorming phase! Thanks so much!!!

as others have said; too young for waterslide and definitely not worth the expense at two. Unless you have specific kids that he absolutely loves to be with.. he really doesn't need a "friends" or kids party at 2. I would take the family and go to the beach for the day. Or a local pool. Then cake and ice cream later and you are done! there are plenty of birthday parties to come... take a break when they don't know anything different yet!

enjoy -- J..
P.S. - my daughter will be seven 8/24.. and I still haven't rented one of those waterslides... each year she wants something else! LOL

We actually went very small for the 2nd birthday. As in we got the grandparents together and went to the circus. We then came home for cake. I figure that you have to have a party for the first birthday, and the kids will know that they should get a 3rd birthday party - the 2nd one is the only one you get a break on.

I'd take your son and a few family members to an aquarium since he loves water.

Hey there K.! Congrats on your little boy's birthday! I also have a child with a summer birthday (she will turn 1 on August 2) and I'm so excited about the possibility of summer time parties! I think your idea of a water party is fantastic, but to be honest, I'm not so sure one of those slides would be age-appropriate for a bunch of two year olds. Another suggestion is to stay with the same theme but have various activities for the kids around your yard that focus on water. Some ideas are have a water table set up with bath time toys, have a sprinkler set up, an automatic bubble blower going. There are a ton of ideas on line, search under water play. Hope this helps!

We did a paint party for my son's second bday. All of the kids LOVED it. We of course had sprinklers and a slip-n-slide set up because the kids were covered in paint and it was hot, so a great way to wash off, but I think it would be a lot of fun!! The slide may be too much for some kids, but the party is for your son, so if you think he will like it, go for it!! Another idea that we loved this year, we took our kids to Busch Gargens/Water Coutry USA/Williamsburg for a weekend and called it the birthday party for our boys (turned 2 and 4). They had the best time ever and really didn't cost us anymore than 2 birthday parties would have!

I think a baby pool or sprinkler would be a better option at his age.

Personally, I think 2 is too young for a water slide. You would do better (and cheaper) filling a baby pool and having a pool party or a "beach" party with a sandbox. Just have a lifeguard on duty since the little ones can slip and fall or drown very easily in shallow water.

Good for you to want to incorporate your son's love of the water. Personally, I would stay away from a waterslide party. The thought of several children- probably ranging in age from 1-3yrs old frightens me. Too much could go wrong in an instant!!

What about incorporating water in another way. Could you have a fun sprinkler? Could you do some sort of water activity- like water balloon "toss"- have to be careful of the broken balloons that nobody eats them. THey are lots of fun when they break on little feet! My son thought they were funny. do you have a water/sand table that you could put boats or ducks in and let the kids play? You could do small plastic shovels and pails or a little boat or duck as party favors.

A two yr. old party is tough to plan- they are big enough to do many things but can get overwhelmed so quickly. Plus we are the ones that remember that day-not the kids! Good luck!
