26 Weeks Pregnant, Horrible Mid Back Pain

I am at 26 weeks pregnant, getting closer to 27 weeks now and have started experiencing horrible mid-back pain. I experienced this with my first pregnancy, too and never really did anything about it. Since I didn't have any children at the time, I was able to lay down and relax when it got too bad. This time around, I have a very active toddler and cannot rest my back as often as I would like! The pain is much worse this time around, too. Has anyone else had MID back pain in pregnancy? What have you done to help alleviate the pain? I've scheduled a consultation with a chiropractor this Tuesday, but am still a little skeptical of that option (I've never been to one before). I've looked into maternity support belts but they seem to be designed more for lower back pain and pelvic pain which hasn't been an issue for me.

What can I do next?

I understand where you are coming from. With my second pregnancy, I couldn't get up when I laid down. I ended up going to a chiropractor and it was great! It's worth a shot.

I loved E.'s response! I used the ball too and also used it to calm my kids! :)
I had mid back pain and went to a chiropractor. I found out that the muscles supporting my belly were extremely tight. The chiro did a gentle adjustment and then massaged the muscles. I will not lie. The massage hurt but it greatly relieved the pain in my back. I also did a prenatal yoga workout that really helped! I am not in to meditation but just doing the stretches helped so much.
Also, if you can find a massage therapist who does prenatal massage, I would highly recommend making an appointment.
I hope you find some relief! Congrats on your pregnancy!

I am in the same boat. I am also 26 weeks prego with #2 ( a boy Due 6-16-09) I have been getting massages reguarlly, which is fairly easy since I work at a massage studio, but my back pain is terrible and it has started going down my right leg. I am looking into going to a chiropractor and have been looking around for one that specializes in infant/ prenatal care. I got a belly band and I wear it when I am working it has been great and really helped get rid of some of the pain, but it is kind of like a belly wonderbra and pushes everything up so I find it uncomfortable for long periods of time. I am plus size so that might be part of the belly band problem but other wise I love it.

Hi E.,

I had the same issue and during my first pregnancy I was taking a pregnant and fit exercise class. I had talked to the instructor and she suggested sitting on a large exercise ball and WOW did that help with the pain. I must of sat and bounced too much, because after I had my children that was how I was able to calm them down.

Good Luck!!
