My almost 28 month old daughter has had eczema breakouts every now and then since she was a few weeks old. Since she was about 1, the worst place she gets it is on her hands. I grew up with ezcema on the insides of my elbows and backs of my knees my entire life. I still have small, but annoyingly itchy breakouts sometimes. My heart really goes out to my tough little daughter whose hands are now ALWAYS irritated. We are in the process of waiting for an appointment with an allergist because she recently broke out in hives for the first time and ended up in the emergency room (we're trying to rule out whether it was a peanut butter cookie or a pistachio canoli that a family member gave her). I know it must all be related. I just wish someone told me NOT to consume any peanutbutter myself when I became pregnant, especially based on my history of eczema. I never heard such a thing until the emergency room nurse mentioned it to me. I feel so terrible that an ignorant decision on my part could have prevented all of this discomfort for my daughter. She is constantly scratching her blotchy, itchy skin. I have tried so many different creams, cortizones, bath treatments, oils, Benadryl. I never use anything with fragrance on her, including laundry detergents because its been known to trigger my own eczema. I am greatful she is vory healthy and happy otherwise, but to a person who has experienced ezcema first hand, its not just another rash. It can be debilitating. Since our Dr appointment is a whole 2 weeks away, I am hoping for any suggestions or enlightmentent from any physician or someone in a similar boat as us. Remember she is only 2 years old so she doesn't understand her skin condition. I try to teach he rnot to scratch, but I can't even control my OWN sratching at night when I am sleeping and I've been battling eczema on and off for 26 years. I imagine this is 100 times worse for a small child.

What can I do next?

Also There is this stuff that is awesome on everything you can think of! IT is called Boudreaux's Butt Paste. It is wonderful on everything!! you can get it at Babys R' Us. I think you can also get it from Walmart!! Hope these will work for you!! Have a nice sunday! Becca from Milton

Hi Jenn...

My daughter has had exczema since she was literally just a few weeks old. Before that I'd never had experience with it, but then later found out that several people in my family have it.

There is a product line called Mustela that is a hypoallergenic line for kids. They have products for babies with exczema, and from what I hear from customers, it works really well. The thing about exczema is that different treatments work in varying degrees for different people. For example, I have a few nieces who use shea butter and it works better than anything, yet it didn't do a thing for my daughter. I'm not sure if your pediatrician has prescribed hydrocortisone, but be careful using that often because using it too often can cause skin breakdown (I know, frustrating isn't it?).

My daughter's exczema has been soooooo much better since I had her tested for allergies. I have a ton of environmental allergies and as it turns out, my daughter does, too. Thing is, they wouldn't test her until she wassssss I wanna say close to 5 years old. But as soon as we found out that she had allergies, what they were and started treating them, it has made a HUGE difference. As it turns out, in her case, the allergies were causing the exczema. I had no idea that was even possible.

Here's the link to the moisturizer: http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/product/index.jsp?product...

And here's the link to the cream cleanser: http://www.bathandbodyworks.com/product/index.jsp?product...

Just so you know, Bath and Body Works has a 100% guarantee. If it doesn't work for any reason, you can bring it back and get your money back with your receipt or if you lose the recept you can get a merchandise credit. Oh, one other thing....be sure to keep up on sun protection while your child is using exczema care products...

Hope this helps....

Hello, My 2 year old has the same problem. It is horrible! Her hands, elbows, and the back of her knees are the worst. I have tried all kinds of creams too. We are actually going to an allergist in Sept. At 1n years old I gave her peanut butter on toast and we ended up in the ER. We found out she does an allgery to peanut butter. I am trying to get her appt with a ped dermatologist also. I feel so bad for my daughter. She too is constantly scratching and I swear this hot weather makes it worse. Let me know if you find any products that help. I try to keep the baby Aveeno on her at all times. It helps alittle. Good luck I definitely feel your pain.

Jenn,
I know your story first hand. My neice is now 18 mos. and she's battled with eczema from head to toe since birth. The biggest trigger is allergies. She's deathly allergic to milk products - that's when the hives come in - and moderately allergic to peanuts, soy, all sorts of stuff. We tried everything on the market, including the harsh cortizone creams and greasy lotions. The best help was controlling her diet but also her exposure to those things EXTERNALLY as well. Her hands were breaking out horrible last week and we finally figured it out that she had been feeding the dog its treats and they have yogurt in them - which was kicking up the eczema!

Definitely see an allergist - it will help resolve a lot of unknowns. Also, you will be hard-pressed to find good lotions on the market that don't use chemical fragrances and lots of other damaging alcohols, mineral oil and other yuck that will irritate your/her skin. I'm sure you've seen "sensitive" and "for babies" on labels and then you read the ingredients and you wonder how they can get away with such claims! Because of my neice's condition, I was in search of good, safe products. I found Arbonne International's ABC Baby products and the results were amazing! Because of that experience I became an independent consultant myself. You can check out my website at www.junekeane.myarbonne.com if you want to know more. I wish it didn't sound so much like a sales pitch, but I am just glad someone recommended it to me - I wanted to do the same for others. Good luck!
