My 2 year old has really not slept very well ever he is still waking up at night and my husband and I put him in bed with us and he is still waking several times after that crying and tossing and turning like he is uncomfortable. He went to the doctor a couple of weeks ago and she thought he was not going to bed early enough but I think he is in pain. Has anyone gone through this or have any suggestions. We are up for anything1

If he isn't teething check down his throat. My daughter had large tonsils and her pediatrician ignored it. She ended up having sleep apnea bad and that lead to adhd. Her tonsils were removed at 4 years of age and she slept better after that. We also slept with her and it started out because she did so much whining in her sleep.

We thought her whining was from ear infections. Now I believe her tonsils were too big all the time.

I didn't have it much with my oldest but my youngest has.... he is 3. his pediatrician said it could be night terrors and some childrens motrin will help him sleep. OOHH MY!!... it was horiable it only happenes very rarely now but i remember some nights it was like we would be out watching a movie and i'd hear him crying i would go check on him and it seemed like he was only half asleep. i would sit in there for a moment he would go back to sleep not even ten min later he would be crying again. that night it came to the point that my boyfriend (whom im still with) went and got him brought him out to watch the movie with us and he fell asleep in his arms. i would repeat the same thing over again. this happened several times 2-3 times a week sometimes. the motrin did help. I know it hurts sometimes because you really just don't know but the best thing really... don't let him come to your bed it really just sets bad habits for later on. i know you feel bad. you just have to be strong and go in his room say it will be ok and you need to go back to sleep, its bed time. it will pan out good luck with everything

sounds like what we went thru-- the start of night terrors and growing pains-- a dose of motrin about 30 min before bed seemed to help our guys most nights!!

Could be a stage, but nightmares start around 2. Be VERY careful of what he sees on TV or around Halloween! It may seem fairly harmless, but their little minds can get frightened pretty easy. Oversee EVERY cartoon they watch. I remember my 2 year old was terrified of vacuums and had night terrors about it because he saw on a cartoon that a sweeper vacuumed up some cartoon characters, and he thought it could happen to him. If you let him sleep with you, make sure you put him BACK in his own bed after he is sound asleep so he won't get in the habit, it's too hard to break! Or, better, rock him back to sleep then put him back in his own bed, so he won't get in the habit of coming to your bed every time. The more they are in their own little bed and can learn to self sooth at least a little, the better. He does neeed to know you are there for him. Good luck and God Bless!

My 15 month old is doing that same thing. He also screams when I put him down for bedtime. He usually is a great sleeper and I have always been able to lay him down and he can put himself to sleep. I know he is teething. Is it OK to give Mortin every night for a teething baby?

I just want to the response that was asking if giving motrin every night is OK? Motrin (Ibuprofen) is h*** o* the stomach, so it is not recommended that it is given every night for prolonged periods of time. It can cause stomach pain and bleeding. I would use it sparingly. I used Tylenol more than Motrin when my son was young.

Good Morning M., It is possible he is going through growth spurts. Some kids react like in pain, fussy or restless.
A little tylenol or motrin at bedtime would help him.
Please don't keep putting him in bed with you, even if it seems to help him even a little bit. At this age it can be really hard to break this habit later. Besides that it's really hard for you and hubby to get rested to go through your day. Fearing you might roll on him or be kicked, you don't get the sleep you need.
Just my Nickles worth...lol

God Bless
