So What Happened?

I just wanted to thank everyone for all there support and kind words. I did call the doctor and went in for a "spot check". The spotting stopped before my appointment and when I was there he gave me an ultrasound and I was able to see the baby and it's heartbeat. Thanks for all the advice.

Call the doctor ASAP. They can also determine whether you should come in or not. This can be normal or the early signs of a miscarriage. Let them determine for you...

Hi D.,
If your discharge is light brown in color, that indicates it is old blood which is not anything to get excited about. If your discharge turns bright red, if you start cramping or having abdominal pain, if you start feeling a lot of low pressure or if you start running a fever/feeling ill, if your discharge becomes foul smelling, those would be the reasons to call your doctor. To be honest, it doesn't mean nothing is wrong at this point, I just mean if there is something wrong this early on, there is nothing anyone can do to stop the progression. Since your appointment is pretty close at hand, my personal and profession advice is to wait and see what happens and what your OB says. However, if any of the things I listed above begin, call your OB immediately. And just as an FYI, increased discharge during pregnancy is the norm. It's just the body's way of preparing for birth. Take care and try to be as stressfree as possible (easier said than done!).

D., I am a mom of 2 great kids. I also have PCOS, congratulations on your pregnancy. I also had the same discharge with my first and period-like bleeding with my second. They both were born healthy and full term. Please do not hesitate to call your OB with any questions, that is their job. You need to be reassured that everything is ok. Please get checked and make sure that everything is going well. Good Luck and enjoy being pregnant. It is a miracle of sorts.

I am no doctor, but I suggest making an appointment with your doctor. No need to take chances. I am a mother of four. With the four came 1 miscarriage. I started with some discharge which then evolved to spot bleeding. 1 week later i miscarried. I'm not sure what polycystic ovarian is, so not quite sure if this could just be a common thing that will happen in future pregnancies for you. You are on the right steps to being a good mom by taking the time to figure out what is happening right now. Call your doctor and keep us posted. Take care!

I had this happen to me with both pregnancies (although I did not have PCOS). Both times I went to the doctor, and it turned out to be completely normal "implantation bleeding." As I recall it was pretty early on in the pregnancy, right around the time I would have had my period. Anyhow, even though it is probably nothing to worry about, it's still good to call your doctor to put your mind at ease.

Not sure how far along you are, but YES...call the Doctor. Always call the Dr when you have any concerns. Good luck, it might implantation bleeding depending on how far along you are...I think this is common so don't get nervous. Again, good luck to you!

Dear D.,
Just to be on the safe side, I would call the doctor and tell them what's going on and ask if perhaps they can move your appointment up. I bled pretty heavily when I was pregnant with my son so we didn't even tell my daughter I was pregnant because it wasn't looking too good there for a while. But, my little boy hung in there!
Light brown discharge sounds like old blood that your body just may be getting rid of since your baby needs a "fresh" place to grow.
There is a difference between discharge and bleeding.
Watch for fresh red blood accompanied by cramps or pain in your lower back. Also watch for discharge that smells really horrible. Those are definitely things you do not want to wait to be seen for!
Since you have the ovarian thing already, I'm sure your doctor will want to evaluate you. Since it's your first pregnancy, they can tell you what to expect and hopefully alleviate some of your worries.
See if they can get you in sooner, and I'll keep you in my thoughts.

Best of wishes!

I agree with everyone else, call your Dr. right away. It's better to be on the safe side.
It most likely has nothing to do with the PCO. That just makes your pregnancy no small miricle - CONGRATULATIONS!!!!

Here are the two things I've experienced with pregnancy and light spotting/brown discharge. A few weeks into my first pregnancy I had a small amount of brown discharge - no pain or cramping. It turned out that it was an ectopic and had I gotten checked out early, I could've been treated much more easily. With my second pregnancy, I got checked early and confirmed that I had a uterine pregnancy. A few weeks into it, I started having brown discharge again and after lab tests it turned out I was anemic. Once I started taking extra iron (in addition to prenatal vitamins), the spotting stopped. In either case, I did need to see a doctor so follow your gut instinct and call your doctor. It's possible you're experiencing "implantation bleeding" but I'd play it safe and try to see your doctor before the 28th.

Hi! Congratulations on your 1st pregnancy! I think that your doctor's office should welcome your phone call & any questions that you may have so that you can feel as comfortable as you can during your pregnancy, especially since this is your 1st pregnancy. It may absolutely be nothing, but your doctor should put your mind at ease. He should have your medical history & know what's going on with your pregnancy, & you should call if it will make you feel better. Is there an advice nurse you can talk to? If not, leave a message for the doctor with your question so that he can call you back.

& don't ever feel like you are calling unnecessarily because it is better to be safe, & you should feel comfortable enough with your doctor to make calls & ask questions.

Good luck!

You don't say how far along you are but I had this in about the 4th month, went to the dr right away and they told me sometimes you get old blood buildup that comes out like this since you arent having periods. Later I was told I had placenta previa in about the 6th month but you should get checkred out anyways befiore your appt on the 29th if it doesnt stop.

Hi D.-
Definitely contact your OB. It's best to be safe with any sort of abnormal discharge. But just to put your mind at ease, brown discharge is usually old blood - probably just shedding. You don't want it to be pink or red. So, don't worry too much, but DO call your doc ASAP.

Good luck and congrats on your pregnancy!

D.,

Congratulations on your pregnancy. Yes, you should call your doctor asap and make sure everything is ok. I don't know how far along you are, but if its your first appt, you are probably between 6-9weeks? It could be nothing, but I would call to get reassurance.

Take care,

Molly
