1St Birthday Ideas

My son will be turning 1 in November and I am in need of some ideas of where to host his party. My house is too small to have our entire family in it at once. I use to split my daughter's birthday into two parties (one for each side of the family), that is too much of a hassle and I do not want to do it anymore. So I need some suggestions of where I can have my son's party so everyone can attend one party. Most of the people attending are going to be family which means adults not kids. I would like to avoid the playlands with tunnels because my son is too little for those anyway. Thank you in advance for all suggestions!

What can I do next?

If it's a day with great outdoor weather try the park. some require that you reserve but that usually has a fee with it. we just picked one that has lots of pavillions and played it by ear. even the reserved one wound up not getting used while we were there. but the parks ppl came by and let us know we had to be cleared out by a certain time.

Hello! Do you have a pizzaria place that may have a big open room or a back party room? We have held our daughters parties at Davis Brothers Pizza and another one at Monicals pizza in our town. Both had separate room in which we could all sit and still be at tables. We had an open space in the middle where the kids could play and we brought some toys so that they could play while we waited for the pizza to be prepared. You can bring a big blanket for them to sit on or a tarp to lay down to prevent getting dirty on the floor too. We put the pizza's on one table banquet style and everyone helped themselves. Once the food was eaten then we still had the tables for all to sit and enjoy watching the birthday girl to open her gifts in the middle of the room. And the cleanup was easy, just leave it for the Pizza place employees to clean up! You could also look into your local senior citizens hall. Ours is called the Miller Center and they have regular meeting rooms and a lunchroom that is available to rent by the hour, usually $25.00 per hour that is needed. Or try your local VFW. They also rent their halls as well and you do not need to be a veteran to rent them. Good luck! ~~T.

I have been thinking about that, too. My son will turn one in January and my house is way too small for my large family. I was thinking about renting a hall or church basement or something like that. Good luck!

Check with your local library, police or fire station, or a church. Lots of times these places have meeting rooms you can also use for parties. I know our fire station has a room they let out for things like this, as does our library. Many times these rooms are free or rented for a small donation/fee.

My friend did her daughter's 1st birthday at Crayola at Crown Center. She had mostly adults as well. They will do a package for you that also includes the cake if you want. They will reserve a room in the restaurant. It was a really nice party. Of course, the decorations are included.

I don't know where you are either, but we did our son's first at Old Shawnee Pizza off Nieman--they have a party room, it fits quite a few people, and is cozy and warm feeling, like a home. The whole thing ran us about $180 for about 30-40 people, was easy, really good food and lots of fun.

If it is mostly adults with just a few kids. Where we moved from some churches let you rent small activity rooms. or if any one has an apt club house or community center rooms. you can have the food you want and not the overpriced party foods at places and usually you get more time. My daughter 1st party was elmo so we used primary colored streamers and baloons and downloaded coloring sheets form the seasame street site for the kids. Good luck

Try a clubhouse or something like that.

maybe you could have it at a family members house (your parents, husbands parents ) if theirs is bigger than yours.

I don't know where you are located at, but you could try a community center (I know Maryland Heights community center is $175 to rent a room for like 3-4 hours) or the Arnold Rec Plex has Birthday party packages that include the room and swimming (indoor pool). While the either might be a drive for you and/or your family, it might be worth it to have the space you need.

Try seeing if a legion building or your community center isn't too expensive to rent.

Do you have a family member who will let you have the part at their house. Even though your house is small, you could still have it there, it's your house. Just bring in some chairs....borrow some foldiong chairs from a family member or neighbor. My cousin's first home was very small, she actually moved her big couch and brought in folding chairs, then one year she just put most of her furniture against the walls so there was more walking room. Or you could have an 'open house' where guest have the chance to come within a 4 hour span or so. That way everyone would have an opportunity to come, but not all at once. Or find a nicer resturant with a banquet room.....although that might be more impersonal, but you may not have to clean up that first cake mess. Good Luck.

Check with your local chamber of commerce they should have a list of nearly every meeting room in your area. Some with little or no fee. A really neat thing to do at the party: get an inexpensive piece of white cloth, section in to squares(1 for each person expected, i used painting tape) get several different colors of fabric paint, paper plates (big) and paper towels have your guest dip their hand in a color and place their hand print in a square and sign their name beneath. When it dries you can hang it up in their room or store it as a keepsake. I sewed it to a backing and made a blanket. Have a great time.

Alot of banks have community rooms that you can rent for a day and sometimes its free or you pay a small deposit and then get it back after the party. For the past 2 years we have used one for my nephew. Good luck!

For residents of Moore, the Library will let you use one of their meeting rooms (not right inside the library, so you don't have to be quiet) for free. You do have to call in advance and book the room, set it up, and clean up afterwards...but you would do all of those things anywhere. The rooms have plenty of tables & chairs to use all you need, also leaving room for the kids that are there to play any games, run off some energy, etc... They also have an area with a sink and mini fridge w/ice. If your not in Moore (and don't know anyone who is), maybe your area does something similar?! Good luck finding a place!
