19 Months Too Soon to Potty Train?

My daughter is 19 months old today. A few wks ago I bought a training potty just to get her interested. Well, she has been waking up from nap every day with a dry diaper. She also has gone to the bathroom to sit on her potty (with diaper on) when she went poop twice now. It seems she is very interested and may even understand the concept. I just didn't think she would this soon. My question is...is 19 months too early to potty train? I'm a first time mom and honestly don't know! Any suggestions on where I begin would be greatly appreciated! Thanks mamas!

No it is not to early! Each child is different. Just go at her pace. If she has an accident then oh well. It happens. My daughter showed interest at 14 months. Yes 14 months. lol She is a pro now. I never forced her, but when I went she would sit on hers. So we took it from there. She may show interest now and then stop. Thats ok too. Just take it one day at a time and go for it! Good luck!

I would say no it's not to early. I am a first time mom myself and my 18 month old started showing signs such as saying poop, pee, and pointing to the potty. I too had to end up asking friends and went ahead and started training. We are still in the process, She has pee'd four times and pooped twice. She is now almost 20 months so every child is different. But once you start I believe you must stay consistant if your child is ready. Good luck!

Follow your instincts! If you decide to start and find she's just not ready then pull back and try again once she shows more interest. We started when my daughter was 13 months and she did great during the day for several months and for a few months didn't do well. By the time she was two she was potty trained, but it was at her own pace.

i would say yes. however let her do it in small steps. maybe by 24 months she'll be ready.

It's never too early if she's interested!! My son showed interest at 18 months, and we've been working on potty training off/on for a few months. He has good days and bad days with his interest level. I don't push it b/c I don't want him to have an adverse reaction to it. We're about to really start potty training next week when he runs out of diapers. Don't push it, and don't expect too much. There will be setbacks, but she will get it! Make it fun for her and she'll enjoy it better!

No - it's not too young. My oldest son was potty trained at 18 mos. and my second son not until he was almost 3. Every kid is different. The most important factor is that she's doing this on her own - i.e., you provide the "tools" that she needs, but she chooses to use them. So, really, continue to follow her cues and appreciate where she is in this process.

Definatly not! She is showing all the classic signs go for it! And if she doesn't take then say ok and try it again later when you think she is ready again. There is no harm and trying! The faster your out of the diaper phase the better! Good luck!

If she's showing an interest, let her try it! My DD was doing the same thing at 18months and the first time she sat down she peed! I thought it was going to be a piece of cake! WRONG!! She wasn't fully trained until she was around 3! My advice is, let her try, praise her til you're blue in the face, use a reward system <we used a sticker chart and sugar-free gummi bears!>, but be flexible!! That will come in handy where #2 is concerned! That was the biggest obstacle to master (with the help of the book "Everyone Poops") but once she did it, she was a pro!

Best of luck and feel free to PM me!!
