hi all. got a question for you, my daughter just started acting like her private area is bothering her. she is acting ok now but for the last hour she was grabbing herself by the diaper and crying. she has had a high fever for the last two days and just not feeling good. any suggestions on what may be causing her private area to be hurting? you all know how babies get when they dont feel good, its been a fun few days. thanks for the help, R.

Take her in immediately! If it is a UTI/Bladder infection, it can be very, very serious. Do not leave this untreated. The bacteria can spread to her bloodstream and become fatal.

Please, please, please call your pediatrician and have her evaluated for a UTI! Fever with no other real symptoms, pain... classic symptoms. Left untreated, it could potentially become quite worse, so please do not hesitate any longer!!!!!!!!!

Hi Rachael, I know this is late, but I would also like to chirp in that it could be a Urinary Tract Infection. My daughter has had 2. Once while in diapers and there was no sign she had it except a high fever and the urine in her diapers smelled really strong and different. Thankfully, a friend of mine had encountered the same and told me to ask my Dr to do a urine test.

When she was 5 and had one, it happened the same way. No signs except a fever that came on really fast - strong smell too.

So, I would keep an eye on her and if she does have a fever at all and/or a strong/strange smell to her urine (a small whiff is all it takes to notice it), go ahead and ask the dr for a urinalysis (sp).

Good luck!

I agree with other two responses...get her to the doctor asap, even if her fever has subsided. It is very likely a common UTI/bladder infection which (from my own personal experience from childhood to now) can be extremely painful and uncomfortable. Cranberry juice will help as it will inhibit the bacteria from adhering to the bladder wall.

Little Girls are more prone to bladder inrfection and things, i would get that baby to the doctor, and give her pedialyte instead of juice, she may also have a higher acid count in her from the juice which will make it burn when she goes potty. but definately get her to the doc with the fever.

I don't want to worry you, but you need to get your daughter to the doctor asap. It sounds like she may have a UTI. My daughter showed the same symptoms when she was 12 months old, when I took her to the doctor I found out she had a UTI that had turned into a kidney infection. We had to put her in the hospital and then found out she had a reflux that caused her UTI. Just to be on the safe side please take her to the dr.

that definitely sounds like a urinary tract infection! when she is grabbing at her privates it is probably when she is peeing and it burns. i would have her checked out quick, you dont want that to spread to her kidneys! it can get really nasty then!

I think your daughter possibly has a bladder infection or a urinary tract infection. Take her to the doc - they'll sample her urine and can tell you in no time. An antibiotic will clear it right up and then you can all have better days!

Sounds like a UTI. Call your doctor asap and schedule an appointment. They'll want you to collect a urine sample, so you'll have to pop in and pick up the special "diaper" for this before the appointment. They can develop quickly into bladder infections, so--get her in quickly. If she is touching and exploring (which is absolutely normal), it could also be a minor yeast infection. So, either way--get her in. Good luck

With fever crying and grabbig her private this is a tall tale sign of a UTI in children. If your drs office isn't opened take her into a Medassist or Minormed. They will be able to do a UA on her and get results.

Could be many things!

Diaper Rash, Yeast Infection, Allergic reaction to juice, bothered by the type of diaper/wipes/soap/lotion, etc.

If it's red, inflamed, etc, I'd use diaper cream. If that doesn't help, take her to the doc. If she has a urinary tract infection, that is not something you would see but it would cause her great pain (thus the grabbing it) when she pees.
