My 16 month old daughter no longer takes the binky. She has done well with the adjustments of it all. With in the last week she has been biting her blanket at night time. She also bites her stuffed toys when she starts to get sleepy. If you take the toy away she throws a fit til no end. I was just wondering if this is a normal thing for a child that no longer takes the binky. I do not send her to bed with a sippy cup to drink.

I was just wondering I anyone else had a child that had done these types of things at this age.

She has 11 teeth at the moment with 1 more cutting in, in the back of her mouth.

Thanks so much!!

What can I do next?

I have a 19 month old who has a tendency to chew on things until I saw this post I never thought much of it. I'm sure she's just doing it because A)babies put things in their mouth to explore them B) it probably is helping her tooth by teething on something and C) when we play we nibble her toes, hands, nose belly. I've noticed that she tries to nibble our feet when she wants to play and have attention. Oh yeah, my daughter Parker no longer has her nuk(binky) we took it away a little before 18 months.

PS. Our pediatrician said it's a good thing to send them to bed with a sippy of water, it helps them stay hydrated and put themselves back to sleep.

I hope this helps. ~C.

chewing/biting helps push teeth through as i'm sure your doc has told you, along with that it's a comfort, seeing as how she's only doing it at night time when she's ready for bed, it's her way of soothing herself to sleep.

In China in the orphanages babies are given a small blanket to chew on because there are not enough workers to keep picking up and replacing binkys. It is their comfort. Your child may just need that comfort and with teething they always needs to be chewing on something. I have been a mom, grandma and childcare provider for many years, I say just keep the item as clean as possible and let them chew......might be a good idea to get a duplicate if he is attached to a certain toy and alternate them so they get equal wear.

I have a 16 month old son who stopped taking his binky. I do notice now that he does chew on his blanket and the noses on stuffed animals. I think it is just a way that they comfort themselves. Teething is a very painful experience for little ones. Good luck w/ your little one :)

Part of her biting her toys etc. could just be from her cutting teeth. A lot of kids chew on stuff when they are cutting teeth. I don't think it has anything to do with her not having the pacifier anymore but you never know. Also, it is normal for kids to chew on things when they are getting tired I'm not sure the reason behind it though. Like I said I think the most of it is because she is cutting teeth.
