Just found out that the small bumps on my daughters face and arms is Keratosis Pilaris. I have researched online and there are alot of products to try. My situation is that they are all so expensive. I wish I could find samples of some to see if they will work on her. Has anyone else tried something for this that has been successful?

What can I do next?

I was told by my daughters pedi to "exfoliate" it in the bath by scrubbing it, then use cetaphil lotion on it afterwards.

My son was diagnosed with KP about a month ago on his face and arms by a dermatalogist. We've tried lots of things, without any luck. I've done the Cetaphil wash, Amlactin, Eucerin, Coconut Oil, Flaxseed Oil and Cerave. We went for a 9 month check up last week and his pediatrician still thinks it's eczema/dry skin and will go away once we get warmer weather. He did however prescribe me a steriod cream for his face and I was told to put that on and then top with Aquafor and call him back in a week if it isn't any better. On it for 2 days now and haven't seen any improvement. Good luck!

W.,

I have had Keratosis Pilaris since I was a teenager and my 3 yr old daughter developed it when she was 12 mo or younger. About a year ago I was introduced to Juice Plus and mine is gone completely and my daughters is greatly improved. I love the product so much that I now sell it because I believe in it. There are alot of sites that have info on Keratosis Pilaris. I have it, and so does my son. My arms are in pretty good shape now, because I know to keep them moiturized. Aquaphor is good. Eucerin is good but has lanolin and some are allergic to it.

My son's arms are horrible, because he can't help but pick at them and he's 16 years old and should have more control but he doesn't.

With time and effort I think you can get them to go diminish. Mine are worse when my allergies are worse.

I don't know if this is the name of what my son had, but he also had skin that felt like it always had goose bumps. My pediatrician (who is Asian) said that baby soaps like Johnson's Baby Wash are made to cater to Caucasian skin. I don't know if you are Caucasian or not, but he recommended that for darker pigmented skin, I use Dove's soap. He said that we should leave my son soaking in the tub for longer than normal then immediately afterwards using Cetaphil lotion. It takes a few days for you to notice a difference, but it does work. I've noticed that when we run out of Dove's, I'll use the leftover baby wash, and the goose bumps start reappearing.

Even if you are Caucasian, I would still give this a try and see if it works. Good luck!

KP is very easy to treat - and it is purely cosmetic ie...will never "hurt" your child. There is a eucerin body lotion with aha that I rec for my patients. Depending on your co pay an RX may be cheaper! I am at www.northdallasderm.com

good luck, and remember, you dont have to do anything, it is nothing "bad!"

I am going to do a bit of research for you but in the meantime you could write different phamicutical companies and tell tehm of your situation and maybe you could get samples from them...Companies such as Roche..what I am going to research for you is a program that Montel williams is involved with who helps get prescriptions for people who can not afford it..But I can't remember the name of it...I will try to find out late today...Right now it's 5 am and I can't think that hard...LOL...Your more than welcome to write me at my personal email @ ____@____.com and tell me a little more about your self and your beautiful children...Plus if you don't mind I can ask the women of my mommies groups I'm in, if they know of anything that may help...They're a wonderful group of women that have helped me out immensly whenever I needed something...Good luck & God Bless you & Your family...
