My little guy just turned 15 months old and is still not walking. He is cruising along furniture and may push his shopping cart around if I help him, but has no desire to try walk on his own. I am getting so frustrated. Any moms out there with late walkers... I need some reassurance! I have an almost 4 year old who started walking at 13 months. Thanks.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Not sure why I was so worried because now my little guy, 16 months old, is running everywhere. Thank you for all the reassurance though!!!

My niece is 14 months and hasn't started walking yet. She also does the cruising and will push toys. Every child is different and he will start walking when he is ready. :)

Not to worry. If his doctor isn't worried, don't you be. My first two walked at about 12 months. My younger daughter took her blessed time. She finally started walking at 16 months - two weeks before her little brother was born. The folks who invented double strollers should get extra stars in their crowns!

My daughter was 21 months before she walked. So don't freak out...they have to be 19 months before the pediatrician will recommend intervention. Our pediatrician waited til 20 months to have her evaluated...we ended up with a couple of visits from a therapist...she showed me some things to help encourage her to get up and get walking.

Now she is 3.5 and doing great...taking a dance class and doing warm ups with her older brother's martial arts class.

Each child has their own time table...

It sounds like he's on track, at least developmentally. I wouldn't worry about it. He will do it when he's ready. My 15 month old just started walking when he was 13 months old, and I was laughing with my hubby about it because our other children were running at this age. He's happy to take his time, and we don't mind. He is our last baby, so we are enjoying him, and not stressing over the little things. I know it's tempting to get frustrated over this, but for his sake, please don't. He is an individual, and you can't change that. Let him enjoy a slower pace, and you'll find that you enjoy it also. Don't let it get to you....he will be running, and in the opposite direction of your loving arms soon enough :D

he can probably do it but is just scared of falling even though there is padding there and its not a long way down it is to him. :) my grandma told me she seen kids who walk with a piece of thread for security even though it wont break thier fall.

I am sure very soon he will dash on will walk.

Will he walk holding your finger? If so hold onto a toy and let him also hold onto the toy. When he is not looking let go of the toy (continue to walk along) and see if he will continue to walk on his own.. Sometimes they will take a few steps before noticing you are not holding the toy.

We have suggested this to many people and it will work many times.. I remember my sister used to walk around with a toy holding it out till she realized the toy was not needed to walk..

Don't sweat the small stuff momma! MY twins were actually 10 and 11 months old when they began to walk but I myself wasn't 18 months until my stubborn bottom decided she would walk so don't worry-he will be potty trained and able to walk by the time he heads for college ;())

If he is cruising the furniture than it is only a matter of time. Try not to pick him up and carry him around when you are in the home or put him in a exerisaucer, so that he will be encouraged to walk on his own.

Enjoy the baby time. It goes so fast.....

My daughter didn't start crawling until 15 months and she finally walked at 18 months. She was a healthy full term baby, always big for her age, but just didn't care to crawl or walk. She's very stubborn & kind of a "diva". If someone would carry her, she'd much prefer that than have her feet touch the ground :) She's 29 months old now, in perfect health & developmentally right on target. I walked at 7 months & was concerned about her walking so late, but every child is different & will do things in their own time. Don't worry about it - just enjoy this extra time where your guy is easier to keep an eye on :) It won't last long!

My now 10 yr old dtr was late on everything when she was little. It was hard b/c I had an older son who did everything, i.e. walk, talk, feed himself, etc., early and she did everything later. Talk about 2 kids on the opposite sides of hte normal spectrum!

I used to tease that her feet practically touched the ground b/c she was so old in my Baby Bjorn. She started walking and got her 1st 4 teeth all in one week. When it rains it pours
