Well it took 2 wks but my 14 month old finally got the lovely bug that we all had on Christmas and my son got again a week later. What I am wondering is what else besides the BRAT diet (bananas, rice, applesauce & toast) can give her? She wants nothing to do with the rice, sometimes toast. She only threw up on Saturday but she still has diarreah and that is what we are trying to get under control...

We have also given her cherrios, kix and saltine crackers. We did get her Pedialite and she wouldn't really drink it, but its gross - have you tasted it?? I added a splash of white grape juice and she than drank it. We will be getting more tomorrow.

UPDATE:

After I wrote this I got her up from her nap and put her in her chair to eat and she decided to throw up. It doesn't seem to faze her because after she does it she just watches up clean her up.

Anything thing you can think of that my 14 month old could eat and help with us with the lovely blow outs each day would be great. My husband thanks you in advance since he has had to clean her up each day....

What can I do next?

I would honestly say if she is not throwing up anymore don't worry about the brat diet, just give her bland foods. Too much applesauce or banannas can cause diareah. Also, if you give pedialite, this can cause it if there is too much of it, also when my son needs it we use the orange flavor or grape because he doesn't like the plain either. Another option rather than the pedialite is to do gatorade.

My daughter's doc actually told me that my daughter can eat anything she feels hungry for MINUS greasy or spicy food. The doc also recommended to drink pedialyte instead of water, juice or milk to keep her well hydrated and it is usually easier to tolerate. Fluids are the most important right now so offer that, encourage little sips ever few minutes rather then 'chugging' it down, your child will eat when hungry or they know they are ready for food. It may take awhile for the virus to run its course and the body to adjust back to normal. If you are still concerned call your child's doctor.

Cut out ALL milk/dairy

Have her drink watered down juice or gatoraid if she won't take pedialyte. Juice can trigger diarreha so be careful with it.

I would just feed her anything starchy and full of carbs. Pasta, Crackers, Cereal, stuff like that. I know some people add sugar/cinnamon to rice and it's really really good.

Nope not really. My son has been having this problem for 3+ wks now. It finally got better for like 2 days and then he got the stomach flu last wed and its been back ever since. Several blow outs or close a day. I have been trying lots of crackers, toast, banannas, applesauce, yogurt, and a bit of whatever he asks for. He won't eat rice either. I guess anything dry and just trying to stay away from too much fruit. But I stopped doing anything special before and it still got better so I think it just needs to work itself out.
