My 14 month old son is being treated for acid reflux (3 ml of Zantac 2x/day). They are suspecting reflux due to chronic congestion/cough (they think he may be aspirating too so we have a swallow study coming up). He spit up some as a baby but not like every feeding type of spitting up. I know spitting up is a common symptom. Any other moms with a toddler with reflux? Were they always congested? What medicine worked for your child? The Zantac doesn't seem to be doing anything but we've only been doing it 3 weeks. They even tested for cystic fibrosis because of how much mucus he has. Thank the Lord that came back negative. Just hoping to find a reason for the congestion. Adenoids taken out 3 weeks ago too and his ear tube is already draining fluid again. Any help/advice would be appreciated!
My child who had the adenoids out and the tubes, had allergies. He did not have reflux but was frequently congested and had that funny cough that comes with colds. They said he was asthmatic but didn't have true asthma. So he had the puffer for after colds. Nothing really worked till he went on allergy meds. You might want to ask about allergy testing just to rule that out.
They did test him immunodeficiencies and a blood test for common allergies. Not a skin test
Have him checked for food allergies. One of my grandsons always had issues and was treated with heavy duty RX reflux medication. Turned out to be a milk allergy which cleared overnight when his mom took out all milk products out of his diet. Grew out of it for the most part at age 6 but had my daughter not done a lot of research on her own they wouldn't have found the cause of his problems.

Have you had thorough allergy testing? There are several kinds of allergy tests. One is a simple blood test that checks for a couple dozen common allergens (dairy, nuts, eggs, etc). Then there's the skin prick test which often checks for more comprehensive things, and a patch test that is more extensive still.
What does he eat and drink? Table foods? Formula? Regular milk? Has his doctor discussed food intolerances and possible allergies?
Start keeping a detailed log of his foods and drinks, and symptoms. Be very specific (don't write "had a snack", write "ate one jar of Gerber applesauce" for example).
