My daughter is turning 13 on March 7th. I would like to do something special for her but I'm not sure what. We usually go bowling for their birthday's and they have a good time. If anyone has any interesting ideas I would be greatful.

What can I do next?

So What Happened?

Thanks everyone for the wonderful advice. Now she want's to have a "girl's day" at the mall where she can shop for her own gifts and only want's $ for her bday. I think I can handle that one.

When I was that age, the most fun I had, my mom let me invite a bunch of friends over and we had a sleep over. We ate pizza and cake. Mom pulled out the video camera and we sang and danced to songs using spatulas as microphones. We put makeup on, did each other's nails and mom told ghost stories with the lights off. We had so much fun. Ask her what she would like to do. She might suprise you, it may be something you never would have thought of.

How about a slumber party? Roller skating? How about a make-up party? You could have a Mary Kay consultant or some other beauty consultant come to makeovers for the girls. Make sure to keep the makeup light. For the favor, you could buy each girl a tube of lip gloss or something (let each girl pick her favorite color). You could also do a manicure/pedicure party (without a consultant) and let each girl take home her favorite color nail polish. That would be a fun activity for a sleepover.

Hi K.,
WOW! finally a teenager, just what she has been waiting on..When my daughter turned 18, I had an hawaiian themed pool party for her. All the girls and boys had a wonderful time and still talk about it now. I would suggest finding a local motel with and indoor pool, rent a room and have a pool party in March for her. Normally we don't swim in March, it would be different, unexpected and FUN!! That is if she loves to swim like my kids do. Good luck and have fun with her.

i also have three teen girls 17,13, and 12. When my middle daughter turned thirteen I allowed her to have 3 friends come with us to a local tea house for lunch then later that evening i rented a local teen center for the night to have a slumber party that way she could have as many friends as she wanted it has an indoor basketball court and full kitchen they all brought sleeping bags and pillows and when it came time for lights out we watched movies on the wall with a dvd projector she had areally good time and didnt have to limit her friends.

I am not sure if your in the Sevierville area or not but there is a new skating rink in Pigeon Forge that is very fun and is a great atmosphere for a 13 year old. I have a 10 year old and she doesn't like to skate but likes to go there with her friends they have a dj and everything..Tuesdays are only 6.00 with local id and other nights are themed also they do do birthday parties but not sure on the prices.

Ah to be 13 again... But anyway, here's a couple of ideas. For my 13th, my mother allowed me to ask 3 girlfriends to my "party", it really wasn't a party, but we'll get into that. She let me pick a movie, pick a restaurant, and the only interference I got from her was paying chauffeur and paying for the movies and the food. Sine my mother had never allowed me to go to the movies alone with friends before, or go out to eat alone with friends, this was a huge deal to me. So there's one idea. Here's another, once when I was about 13-14, my friend asked me to a slumber party, her mother has just started selling Avon or Mary Kay, I forget which, but what we had was a combo slumber/makeup/spa party, we got to have a ton of fun, try new makeup, and put this green gloppy gunk on each other's face. I think my Best Friend still has a few pics of us somewhere. It was a total blast, and something I think every teenage girl should experience.

My niece is turing 13 this year as well. So all the women in our faimly are taking a weekend trip together to celebrate her passage into the "teen" world and womanhood. We each have a special message for her and we are making the whole weekend about her. I think its good to reconnect with all of your roots, especially before venturing into the teen years. Even if you can't do a weekend, maybe just a special night out with the girls.

I know you have already decided what you want to do but I wanted to throw something else out there for others to know about. I have a dance studio and we do Birthday parties. We can do them a couple different ways. For little ones we do princess parties and do a little dance class, let them dress up, take their picture. For a fee we can provide decorations and the cake. We do the set up and clean up. For the older ones we do the same set up and clean up but we can teach them a Hip Hop dance or any other style they would like to learn, and then they have an open floor and do a dance party. They then do cake and presents. We can change things if your child has specific things they would like to do. We are located in Murfreesboro. Just let us know.

My daughter just attended a friend's 13th party recently. THey had a room in their house (basement I think) set up as a disco and had the dad as the DJ... She had a blast. Of course there were boys and girls there... but I think it would work for just girls too.

Good luck!

I am in the same boat as you. My stepdaughter is turning 13 this August so I have been reeling over some ideas in my head. I have been thinking about a skating party because she loves skating, but I have been looking at this web site for some neat ideas too.

I have ____@____.com
from others--seems like fun--kinda pricey but for the milestone birthdays it may be worth it. Maybe you could get the kids coming to all bring something potluck style so the price of the bus would not be soooo much money
Hope this helps

ps--you pick out the them of the bus, music etc--the kids party, dance etc in your driveway on the bus
At least you will know where they all are!!

Hey K. - that's my birthday too!! Oh to be 13 again!!! I have three daughters I adopted from Russia three years ago - and two just turned thirteen. Maybe sometime down the road we could hook them up. =) I will try and think of something cool. I'll ask the girls - but they are at school right now.

A new friend....
