My daughter has always struggled w/Math. She does very well on the math Taks but daily school work never gets an A. She needs someone to sit w/her and acutall go over her Math and explain step by step how to do it. Any suggestion on a good math tutor in Mansfield?

Daughter was going to tutoring w/her current teacher, it worked for a minute. Grades are slipping and the teacher is not being very helpful. She says my daughter needs to focus more but at the same time her teacher will not help her more. So WE STILL NEED HELP.
I am a math tutor, but too far away to be convenient. If you e-mail the math department head at her middle school and the local high school, they should be able to recommend someone. If they don't have a list of potential tutors, then the counselor will. www.rainingnumbers.com
Try an online program called ALEKS. It is about $120 a year and WAY cheaper than a tutor. You can use as little or as much of the program for that year. You can use this to supplement her homework and it walks a child step by step through each problem.
It also accesses them and puts them working on stuff they are struggling with, as well as continues to have work for them to do until they get it right.
My daughter HATED math, but was a straight A student. She would always cry over homework. I put her on ALEKS and she LOVES math now!
They have a free month trial, so it doesnt hurt to try it.

Try calling the district offices. Before I had a child, I was a teacher, and I know that the district where I worked kept a list of teachers who were interested in tutoring. The list was compiled by the Adult and community education department.
You could also e-mail her former teacher to see if she tutors. Or, ask her current teacher for a recommendation.Usually, a current teacher is not allowed to tutor a current student. Finally, check with your library- a librarian may know of some tutors.

try an honors math student. talk to the guidance counselor at the local high school for a recommendation. meet at the local public library. sometimes honor students have to have x-amount of volunteer hours. tutoring your child could be the honor student's volunteer project. good luck.
We are in Plano ISD. My daughter is 14 and in 9 th grade. I know that the middle and high schools offer free tutoring. They usually have morning and afternoon sessions so the student can make at least 1.
I'm not familiar with your area, however, many students here go to private tutoring. My daughter, and many of her friends, are in honors classes and we all have private tutors.
Check with your guidance counselor... They usually know good tutors... Usually teachers who tutor on the side for extra money. It is good to make sure you find a tutor who teaches the style the scho teaches and one who connects with your child. You might have to try 2-3to find a connection but once you do.... You are on a good track.
We pay anywhere from $50-$90 per hour CASH for tutors. It is worth it. Math is a fundamental foundation that the students need to master to function throughout high school and college.
There us a big difference between middle and high school teaching and concepts.

Definitely get a math tutor. I hated math when I was about the same age. I would get in fights with my father all the time because I would get so frustrated. A tutor is the best thing you can do to show your daughter that math is important and really does help in the future. I ended up enjoying it so much that I took Calculus I and II and Statistics. This is probably a product of teaching to the test. It doesn't equip students with the basic skills to actually do the math. I would recommend figuring out what she needs to be at grade level and working on these skills with her. Some great sites are www.aaamath.com, www.math.com, nlvm.usu.edu/ Tutors primarily assess where students are and what they need to work on. If you think it is a product of a learning disability then I would seek a professional tutoring service, but otherwise if you have the skills you can help her yourself.
I had the same problem growing up. They said that the left side of my brain worked better than the right. That was why I could draw for hours, but not get a simple math problem. It is a frustrating thing for a kid. #1, don't make her feel dumb for it. She may have a greater strength in something else, but just need a little help with that. Sylvan Learning Center helped me so much. It showed me ways to comprehend the problems in a way I could get. You might want to look into that.
