For my daughter's 13th birthday, I gave her a sleepover, but also found a Mary Kay lady to come over and do skin care and beauty tips. The girls loved it.

We just had a bowling party for my daughter in March and it was awesome. They take care of everything. Not sure of the area you are in, but we are in Sarasota and went to Gulf Gate Lanes. Good luck to your friend.

I think an early evening beach themed b'day party would be fun. And what better state to do it! I would pick a more quiet and private beach (like Sunset Beach) for the location. You could buy tiki torches (cheap at Big Lots) to make path to party spot. It could be a Luau party or pirates/hidden treasure theme. Could make lais (sp?), have guests come in grass skirts or tropical wear, have a fire pit, etc. I think that idea could be really fun.

We are doing an outside movie night and bon fire for my son's 15.
He has gone to war parties (water balloons, muck, and paintball) the girls had more fun then the boys.
One girl in his class had a Habitat party, they were too young to do alot, but they were allowed to clean and paint.

have you thought about a spa party? invite a few of her friends over for a spa session. arrange chairs in a circle in your livingroom. have a towel and a small plastic bin or container full of fizzy bath salts under each chair. also have a basket full of nailpolish and lotions set up for the girls to pick out their faves. you can get those bon bon nail accesories from walmart. they are like 88 cents a piece. enlist a friend to help you give the girls "manicures and pedicures." play relaxing music in the background have the lights dimmed..give them the royal treatment. buy a pack of lindt truffles and fresh strawberries and have them on a pretty tray to offer up the "customers." after they are done with their massage and polish session, have them lay on the floor and put a mud mask on their face and a wedge of cucumber on their eyes. you won't be putting out as much money as you would have for a regular party and this one is custom made for girls and i promise that her friends will be impressed and wanting to do the same thing for their parties. good luck!

Have you ever thought about going somewhere to paint your own pottery. I recently went to Glaze Under Fire for a baby shower and it was so much fun. There was also a couple teenage parties going on at the same time. They give the birthday girl her own special chair with a crown. It can be really fun. We brought our own food and cake also. It can be a little pricey, but worth it. Check it out.

Hi M.,

I have a couple of ideas for your friend:

My sister in law is having a party for her 11 year old that sounded really cute to me. Maybe it's more popular than I am aware of, my daughter is only 4.... They are going to a salon that specializes in kids only. They pamper the girls for the morning, hair, manicure, pedicure and light makeup. Then they go out for a fun "grown-up lunch", usually all dressed up. To keep the cost down and make it more manageable and fun, you keep the guest list pretty small and limit her to only her best of girl friends. For some kids, this would be out of the question; for others, it's perfect.

Another idea, if she is into it and wants s bigger party - is a backyard get together where the kids "cook" their own meal. Tons of ideas for this online with recipes and all. Some can be kept entirely outside and just need a little help from mom and dad.

Good luck with the party - and keep it organized so you have fun, too!!
