Thoughts on My First LeapPad

We just found a My First Leap Pad for $12. I bought it because that sounded like a good deal. It came with a My Little Mermaid book, obviously not for a little boy, but its better than nothing. I also found some online books for it, ABC's. Number Farm and Leap to the Moon. Anyone else have one of these? What books did you find were the most interesting for your kids? I'm not really looking to spend a lot on the books, the ones I found were on Amazon for $2-$4 each. I'm happy for now with what we have, but I'm sure he will grow tired of the...

Leapster Vs. Nintendo DS for 5 Yo

My daughter turns 5 in a few weeks and told me she wants a Nintendo DS for her birthday. She's seen some other kids playing with them at her day care and has played with those belonging to friends the same age so now she wants one of her own. I was thinking before of doing a Leapster LeapPad because that's what another friend of mine got for her boys and another friend's son has a Leapster Explorer and she likes it better because she feels it's more educational content, while the DS is just games. Anyone have one or the other for their...

LeapPad - Waste of Money or Worthy Investment?

Hi all, We are going to be driving to Florida (from MN) for spring break. I have 3 kids aged 3, 5 and 6. I am starting to think about things to keep them busy for 28 hours in the car. I have two friends who bought LeapPads over the holiday, but haven't used them much yet. I'm curious if you all can give a recommendation. I saw some pretty negative reviews on Amazon.com complaints about cost of applications, difficulty with set up and support, and the fact that the games were pretty spendy. Part of me wants to have my kids read...
