Miralax for Toddler

My son has been battling constipation as we've gotten full into potty training. I know this can be a normal thing but we've had a couple of bouts here lately that have been really tough. So his pediatrician finally convinced me to buy Miralax today. I have been really reluctant to give him anything "unnatural," preferring to use prunes and that kind of thing, but she explained that after an episode or 2 of constipation the end of the bowels can actually stretch out a little, making the next poop that forms bigger than normal, and it...

Miralax for My 23 Month Old?

My son who will be 2 friday has had belly pain for several weeks. The dr ran some tests they all came back normal. The x-ray showed some mild "back up" in the bowels which I thought was odd since he pooped 4 times before the xray that morning. The biggest problem is he poops 4+ times a day and it ranges from hard balls (usually those are about every other day) to peanut butter texture to watery with some chunks in it. Most of the time its the PB texture which it sticky and the smell will almost burn my eyes. The dr suggest last...

13 Year Old Son Keeps Having Recurring Abdominal Pain

My 13 year old son keeps having recurring abdominal pain. It started in March when he woke up complaining of severe abdominal pain. I took him to the ER where he had a CT scan, blood work and was given morphine. The CT scan showed nothing and the blood work came back normal. They ruled out appendicitis at the time. He was prescribed an antibiotic and pain medication and the ER doctor diagnosed it as Mesenteric Adenitis which is swollen lypmph nodes in the groin and abdomen area and said that it was viral and it would go away on it's...

6Yo Wetting Bed Again

My 6.5 year old has started wetting the bed again, the last 3-4 nights in a row. The first night after it happened we made him stop drinking after 6pm, and made sure he went to the bathroom before bed, but it still happened again. I'm just trying to figure out why this has suddenly started again, out of no where, and why he seems to be unable to wake up and go or something. Any suggestions on how to fix it or why he would be wetting the bed that many nights in a row? Thanks in advance :)

Miralax Vs. Suppositories

I took away my son's pullups and he is withholding his stool now. Today is the 3rd day. I think he just needs to poop once in the potty and he'll be OK. He's scared of the notion and he needs to see that it's OK to poop in the toilet. So I know there's a buildup of poop in his system. he was dancing around yesterday trying to hold it in. I've given him lots of fiber and juice/water so I know it's inevitably going to come out soon. In case it doesn't by tonight, I want to make him go so he doesn't get constipated. I'm debating the...

Miralax and Constipation

Since we started school we have been battling with constipation with our 5 year old. I think it is the transition from "free range" drinking to structure. I have met with the dr countless times and first we tried diet changes with no luck, now we are on miralax. I just wonder if anyone has used this long term with their child and has an opinion. I tried taking her off it over the Christmas break and over spring break but the constipation comes back horribly. I was wondering if putting her on a drinking schedule may help? I could have...

Benefiber Instead of Miralax?

Hi, our son will be three in November and is taking Miralax for chronic constipation. Long story short, he is potty trained except for when his stool gets backed up and then comes out uncontrollably and extra soft due to the Miralax. It is so hard to figure out the right dosage for him - right now we do a half cap a day, and a full cap if he hasn't pooped in two days. Anyway, to say it stresses him out would be an understatement. His stool so unnaturally soft, it's pretty much diarrhea. So, despite the fact that he never has accidents...

Experiences with Suprep Bowel Prep

I'm having a Colonoscopy on Monday and have to use the Suprep prep tomorrow night. I'm concerned about how I'll feel after taking the prep. If you'd share what your experiences were like, I'd really appreciate it. My doctor gave me a medication called Zuplenz 4mg to take to prevent nausea prior to starting the prep. If you used Zuplenz, how much did you take and did it prevent nausea? I was given two 4mg films. Deborah L--thank you for sharing what you thought when you read my question!! Made me laugh!!

Miralax - How Long Did Your Child Take It?

Hi there, If your child took Miralax, I'm wondering how long s/he was on it? Our little one is three years old and has had constipation issues for the past two years, since she was a year old. She has been on Miralax, or a similar medicine for over a year. My husband and I hate that she's been on medication for so long, and are considering putting her on a non-dairy diet to see if that will work instead (that was the only other suggestion from our pediatrician besides Miralax, since we've tried all other dietary adjustments). With...

Moms Who Use Miralax

Our son was just put on Miralax by a nutritionist. We started on Thursday and the pharmacist recommended 1 tsp a day for him. It's Sunday now and no sign of a poop. For all the moms who've used this med on their kids, do you remember how long it took to get initial results? And about how long were your kids on it before their systems became regular? Also, what is the dosage you were told to use? My son is 2 years old and about 28 pounds. Thanks!
